Need a GOOD fix for the rear joint on the front drive shaft? 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD S

2006 Jeep Liberty CRD Sport

Can anybody help me out with a GOOD fix for the rear joint on the front drive shaft?

I installed the first kit and a certified mechanic installed the 2nd kit from driveshaftparts.com . Both failed in short order.

I want a fix that will last 100,000 miles or so.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Links? Anything?

I've gone through 2 is less than 10,000 miles and 7 months. One installed by me and the other by a certified mechanic.

I saw a post on another forum from another person that had the exact same experience.

Others have posted 70,000 miles and still going.

When the first one went bad driveshaft parts sent another out in short order.

They may well send a 3rd one out in short order also. But I can not afford the time and money to keep replacing them, even if they are free.

Since I have to pick & choose what I can work on, I will probably farm that job out yet again. I just do not have the ability anymore to work the hours necessary to keep up, let alone whittle away at all the other projects sitting here that need to be done

My replacement probably lasted just as short. That's why i'm leaving the joint as is for the time being.

I would take it off the vehicle. My fear with driving with a bad joint, would be taking out the seal and/or bearing on the transfer case or possibly doing even worse damage to the transfer case.

vibration can do bad things. These things turn all the time, even when not in 4 wheel drive.

Did you also buy from driveshaftparts.com ?

If so you need to call them and let them know of your issue. Even if you are like me and do not want to try their part again. I can not afford the time or money to keep changing these - even for free parts. Since I can not do the work myself right now, it costs me double the part cost to have it swapped

Mine currently only has a torn boot but has been like that for quite some time. It's not as bad as it used to be and doesn't do much vibing. Only really makes noise when torque is placed on it (4WD).

Yes I got my part from DriveShaftParts.

I don't DD my Jeep anymore so it's not really spinning all the time Only for about 3-4k miles/year.

My 04s went out at about 75,000, installed one from driveshaftparts and it lasted until 165,000 installed another from them and it was still going when it was stolen at 221,000

Can anybody think of any reason why mine and several others driveshaftparts

Rear joints on the front drive shafts are not lasting even 5,000 miles?

I am stock 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD Sport - no lift - all stock

Is there a difference because of the years?

Is there a difference because of the diesel?

Is the part for the 2006 not as good as the part for the 2004?

Has their parts quality gone downhill since Tom bought his?

Is there something we are missing and need to check better, that could be causing our issue with the rear joint to go out repeatedly?

I replaced mine over 25,000 miles ago with the driveshaftparts.com unit and it's been perfect. I bought it whe I got the Jeep about 4½ yrs ago and stuck it on the shelf until I needed it. I was very careful to matchmark the shaft to differential end and reinstall it exactly as it had come out.

I have no idea if that made any difference, but it's been perfect for me.

I've got about 50k on my replacement and no problems. I forgot to mark the orientation but tried to put it in the way it came out by memory. I bought the front diff end too. That's still sitting on the shelf in the garage.

I'm wondering if the more recent replacements are lacking in quality?

I have a little over 90,000 miles on mine - bought it from driveshaftparts.com. I wheel, drive it on the highway at 75-80 mph, and put it in 4WD frequently during the winter on the back country roads I drive for business.

Doesn't make sense that yours is failing so quickly. Lift doesn't make a difference since the front diff doesn't change position (it's in a fixed position.) IIRC the CRD diff is shifted to the left slightly to make room for the deep oil pan of the diesel. Can someone else verify that the CRD diff creates a secondary angle for the front driveshaft CV's?

I used a paint marker on mine to mark the flanges

Has quality suffered in the last 4 years or something?

Have you checked your motor mounts and transmission mount?

My s10 when it was stock had the same style front driveshaft and I was constantly blowing out the cv joint on the tcase side when others weren't having issues. Come to find out all three mounts were bad, causing too much movement and breaking the cv when it was in 4wd(shaft didn't turn in 2wd).

I was told the rear was going out because the front was to stiff. I replaced the whole shaft with a used unit.

Now it feels like the rear is going out on it also

If your vehicle isn't lifted excessively, which causes excessive wear, your propeller shaft could be bent or out of balance causing premature wear of the U joint. If it was really bad though you should be able to notice it while driving.

I've noticed it while driving everytime it went bad.

I feel it in the drivers seat.

The Jeep is NOT lifted. I gave up on the first driveshaft and bought a used driveshaft - it appears the rear joint has now gone out on that driveshaft. I will try driveshaftparts.com rear joint on that shaft

A lift doesn't make any difference with the CV's on the driveshaft from the transfer case to the front diff. The front diff is in a fixed position so the prop shaft position never changes.

The CV's on the front axle can have issues with extreme lifts since their angles change with a lift. But I've driven mine about 100,000 miles with a 3.25" lift with the same driver side axle. Did replace the passenger side because I nicked one of the boots and grease from the CV splattered all over. But I think that was about 3 years ago which would be about 45-50,000 miles.

Front doesn't change the angle if lifted or not
We don't have u-joints up front we have CVs
