Im not sure if Im just dumb when it comes to this or not but first snow fall here in KY and we need to leae - So why not take the Jeep problem is I don't know how to operate the 4x4 - I watched Jeeps site but Im still confused. From what Im reading you have to be rolling to shift to 4 high correct? And on 4 Low you can oonly be going 2-3 MPH and ****** has to be in nuetral But for snow we would only need 4 Hgih. Anything else special?

Nope that's about it. Don't turn real sharp in higher traction conditions while 4WD is engaged. Keep it rolling to shift back to 2WD.

don't use it on non-slippery pavement.

Don't put it in 4wd at speeds over 55

Let off the gas when you change to 4wheel when moving

You don't need to be moving to put it in 4hi. You should be for 4Lo. You shouldn't need to use 4Lo.

Psht, if you live in Kentucky then you shouldnt be worrying about snow unless you live in the Northern part of Kentucky.

When you look at your tcase shifter, do you see 2WD, 4Part-Time, N, 4LOW, OR 2WD, 4Part-Time, 4Full time, N, 4Low?

If you see a Full time in there, use that when youre driving on patchy snow covered roads. 4Part-Time should only be used when the roads are totally covered in snow with no exposed blacktop.

You can shift into 4 Part-Time or 4 Full-Time at any speeds under 55mph. Just let off the gas, pull it to the desired mode, and drive. When shifting back out, do the same but give it a few hundred feet before turning. Shift back to 2wd, give it some gas, let off, then you can turn.

4low is for slow speeds, such as offroad on rocks or pulling a boat up a steep hill at low speeds.

And don't go over 55 when in 4hi either. However if you're in a situation where you need 4hi, you shouldn't be going anywhere near 55 to begin with.

I somewhat agree - although, I run mine in FT4Hi on rainy days on I-696 at 80mph. Rain + SR-A's = FT

Dude I'm in Florence Kentucky which is about as Northern Kentucky as you can get it Im just on the other side of Cincinnati :)

As for looking at the shifter - We don't have the sticker on there we bought the Jeep used so I don't know the labels for it. I do know I tried to shift it into 4x4 while we were sitting still and it was pissed at me - I wasn't sure I was allowed to but if you have to be in motion then that answers why it idid that. But to get it to 2x2 I just let off the gas and push back down on the lever or is there some uniqueness to get it to go down?

I haven't left yet but the roads are pure slush around here and its raining Ice.. - WTF! :)

I've been using 4Lo just about all the time when off-road because it limits my speed and gives me more control over the bumps. I also seem to get better gas mileage. Also another way to shift into 4 Lo on mine if it is being difficult is to just put the ****** in N and turn the vehicle off - works for me.

Mine doesn't seem to like to shift into 4lo smoothly if I am moving at more than a real slow snails pace forward. In fact mine goes right in like butter if I am stopped and A/T in neutral and then I just put the A/T in first and crawl. I do not shut the motor down. Seems like It stays in the max torque range at a lower speed when the A/T is locked in first gear. I go to 4lo BEFORE I get to where I think I want to use 4lo.

You do not need to shut the motor down if you don't want to. Try it. Either way, you will not hurt anything.
