Alright, so I may have decided on the muffler I want for the KJ--finally!! I stumbled across this brand on youtube and so far have liked what I've seen. I've done a little bit of research on them, and I found they're surprisingly inexpensive, which has me a bit concerned about quality. I was planning to spend around $400 for the muffler and piping together, and this muffler is only $125 on its own, from what I've seen. So, what I'm referring to is the Aero Turbine 2525 muffler. This is the site I found selling them for $125.

http://www.mandrelbendingsolutions.com/servlet/the-167/AERO-TURBINE-MUFFLER-2525/Detail

Now, because I can't seem to find much information regarding anyone putting this kind of muffler onto a KJ, I figured I'd get all your opinions on here before I made any final decisions. Also, I was unable to find anything about size of the piping on that site, so I don't even know if it would fit the KJ. Would I need downsizers, or whatever they're called, in order to make it fit? Also, what is a resonator, and would I want to leave room for one?

The reason I like this system so much is the deep tone when idling (you can actually hear it as opposed to a Magnaflow), and the non-airy tone when revving (like the Flowmasters tend to do which makes them sound awful to me). Basically, I want the KJ to be loud but not to the point where I'm going to get pulled over for it. I'm not planning to do anything with the headers right away, unless I find out this system really is only a couple hundred, in which case I may be able to afford finding some headers for it.

Here's one of the videos I found where you can really hear it:

So I hope my rambling has made at least some sense--any advice or information is appreciated.

Just as a note, thats on a I-6 engine which is completely different than whats in the kj.. So it will probably sound different if not a lot different.

If you down size your pipe to make the muffler fit the your 100% completely defeating the purpose of wanting a good, free flowing exhaust. You want to make it as big as possible to make it flow as free as possible. Thats why I cut out the connector just before the muffler and just put a straight pipe to the muffler.

Resonators are used to keep down 'drowning.' Thats the constant roaring you usually get with something like a V-6 when you put a good sounding muffler on it. While driving down the hw at 2000 rpm or whatever, its ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING. Resonators stop that.

Ive never heard of that brand so I know nothing about how it fits, what sizes they come in, or where to find what sizes they come in.

And thats not really cheap. I paid under $100 for the muffler and parts to install mine..

You asked about the exhaust pipe size. Both the inlet and outlet are 2 1/2". Sorry, but I can't help you with your other questions.

Okay, well I'm assuming that since the Magnaflow site has the tubing O.D. size as 2.5" for the muffler made specifically for the Liberty, that the Aero should fit no problem, since those are the measurements I found for it as well. However, the Magnaflow site also mentions a 3.5" O.D. Tip size--that's not the outlet on the muffler itself, correct?

As for being cheap--every other catback system I looked at was well over $400. Granted this is just the muffler, but yeah.

And if I didn't buy a resonator, is it something that is going to get me pulled over for driving through residential areas at night for being loud? =P

Hmmmm??? $125 so you can make your exhaust louder???

Interesting......I prefer the stealth mode myself and usually laugh at the kids with the louder hyped exhaust but have done nothing to the engine to warrant the extra noise. I believe my friends called it, "all show and no go."

You could probably save yourself the $125 and grab a drill instead and drill some holes in your exhaust and get the same thing.

Nope, dont think so. I took the muffler off to see what it would sound like and its nothing like what my flow master sounds like.

The stock exhaust is 2.5in center in and offset out. Dont worry about the 3.5in OD on that other exhaust. The reason cat backs cost so much is because they come with all of the pipe from the muffler to the back of the jeep. That really doesnt need to be replaced so getting just the muffler like youre thinking of doing is a good idea.

Your Jeep will not be loud enough to get pulled over if you do not get a resonator. Well, idk how stuck up the cops are around there, its untelling. Cops here wouldnt car if I was driving without an exhaust while wearing no clothes with no doors on my Jeep. :D

The only thing I could see happening is buying one of these Aero turbine muffler, having it installed, and then the exhaust note is not what you expected.
I've had that happen!
Albeit in a different car. Also there was NO back pressure, so only did the sound suck, the muffler also robbed some power from the engine.

Alrighty, well that's good to know. I did find a version of the AT 2525 that has a built in resonator but it's closer to $200 that way. Now I just need to order one of them and get it put on =]

I listened to the glasspack, didn't really like it that much, but thanks =]

Now, as for installing the muffler, anyone feel like sending me a link to a how-to somewhere, possibly, because I couldn't seem to find one on here. Will I need to weld anything or can it all be held in place with clamps and such? Anything I need to buy to put it together?
