Hello. I'm new to the forum and my sister has a 2003 Liberty that has the following problem:

While driving, often times at stop lights, her Jeep will stall out. She is able to get it started again after several attempts. She says that she smells an electrical burning type smell. The radio and clock reset every time.

I think this sounds like an issue with either battery terminals/cables or battery. Almost like maybe the battery or cable are grounding out (thus the stalling and smell). I'm in NE and she lives in CO, so I'm unable to check it out personally. Just wanted to ask around if anybody has had similar issues so I know which way to point her when she takes it to the mechanic.

Thanks

It could be one of many things going on here.
I'd 2nd your thoughts on the electrical. Start by making sure the terminals are tight at the batt and alt.
Maybe have her go to the local parts store to get a free scan on the batt/alt.
If all else fails, their could be a short in the harness somewhere. I helped a friend whose harness was showing serious copper on several wires. We dosed it up with liquid electrical tape and all's been good. This was right at the firewall, on the motor side.

Hope this helps. How long has it been going on?

clogged fuel filter mabe:shrug: gotta be something. Where's TJKJ?
