Haha. So I drove it twice and really didn't feel a lack of power shifting through the gears. I drive my cars so conservatively too that going for the v6 did not seem like the right choice. Plus, 6-speed! 6! It was fun to drive I thought and lugged my 4k lbs around pretty good I thought!

Think about how much harder a 4cyl has to work vs a 6cyl to move 4000lbs...which I think is conservative. Full tank of gas, passengers, and cargo..you're easily at more like 4500-5000. But regardless, if you want longevity, I would get the 3.7L. That's why you won't really see any mileage benefits either...yeah, smaller engine, that has to work a lot harder and consume a lot more fuel.

Personally, I would never buy a 4cyl SUV of any kind...but ultimately your decision...so enjoy whatever you choose and welcome.

Very firm believer of the old saying "there's no replacement for displacement" and after I recover my V8 swap funds(family medical emergancy) something in the 390+ cubic inch range will be under the hood of my KJ.Hey gotta overcome the 6000lbs weight,she's fat.

Hi!!! I just closed on my 2005 V6 4x4 KJ today! I absolutely love it! Been wanting one for 5 years and finally traded my 2004 Mustang and 1997 Explorer towards it <3 Came with the fog light bar on top (kinda sealed the deal for me). So excited to be a part of the Jeep World!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to both of you! You'll both enjoy your Jeeps - especially if you use them for what they're designed for. Have some fun off-road on occasion, make mods that are your own (borrowed from others here) and run the damn thing. You'll love it!

I have that 2.4l engine in my stratus and find it severly lacking it power. I'm sure it would be better with a 6 speed instead of an auto though. Also, don't expect too much in fuel economy from it. I average around 23mpg on a 2.5 hour trip in my car traveling around 75 compared to getting 20.5 in my jeep on the same trip at the same speed. I would highly recommend finding a V6 if possible.

I drove it for a while and really was impressed with the acceleration. Then again I currently drive a 1997 Mazda b2300 stick shift. So, it was a big bump in performance for me!

Just be sure. I thought my stratus ran good whenever I bought it. Once I got used to it I realized how much of a dog it was. :disgust:

If all your going to be doing is rolling around town i dont see any problems with having a 4 vs the 6. Gas mileage is garbage either way. But i dont see if performing well off road. Muddy holes, steep hills etc. But any ways enjoy it and welcome.

I understand that. That's why I told you the each trip was driven at the same speed in either car. Plus, if you drive the speed limit around here you are more likely to cause an accident. :disgust:

I wasn't trying to be preachy or anything sheesh! I just thought it was interesting how much inefficiency is caused with modest increases in speed! I was agreeing with you at getting bad mileage going 75mph!:shrug:

Sorry, didn't mean to come across mean. I agree it is quite interesting. I was just pointing out that a lifted liberty with V6 can still manage 20.5mpg at 75 mph. (I think mine was rated 22 highway stock) My stratus on the other hand which is more aerodynamic and weighs less, only nets 23mpg at 75. (Rated at 30mpg stock)

I'm just thinking the fuel mileage between the 2 in the liberty would be negligable!

Only works if you gear accordingly.

My KJ,before the SFA swap,got the best mpg's of almost 22mpg's at 78mph with the 3.7 turning 2900rpm's.It would bog and hunt for gears at 60-65mph and would barely be able to get 16mpg's.That was still when my KJ was IFS but still weighed 5500lbs and running 265/75R16 D range MT's on steel wheels(92lbs tire/wheel combo) with 4.10 gears(speedo corrected also).Now being SFA'd at 65mph I'm running the same 2900 rpm's and can get 18mpg's,weighing 6000lbs+ with 35" tires and alloy rims(89lbs combo) and 5.13 gears and 10" higher then stock.
