Love these forums, which have most helpful esp in my honda prelude and ford explorer sport, which we traded in for this 2007 jeep liberty(black)...
a good friend of mine has a red 02 with 135k on it..just now replaced orig tires and im going to replace belt for him soon, orig too..lol..so when me and partner were looking for a suv to replace our 01 explorer sport we came on our 2007 Black Liberty..3.7 4x4 fully loaded minus the leather and KC lights..
walked away with it 29,500 miles for 13,000$$..got it from a Ford/Merc dealer..so here comes my questions...lol..
bought it and within 3 days had it back to shop with the rear main seal leaking, not bad but dripping on garage...they fixed it..
2nd is there is a vibration when coming to a kinda fast stop from 40+ mph..cant tell if its ******(torq converter, low fluid,) or just the rumble of the tires(remember we just got it so not sure what noises and drives for a jeep) there is sometimes(depending on temp) it will squeek..like putting it in reverse and backing out of drive way ill hear a chirp! chirp! chirp! but put it in drive and goes away, whats with that? any ideas? Im a real stickler when it comes to my cars..esp when dealership wouldnt give us a rent a car nor a ride to rent a car place..
3rd is ther suppost to be a drain hole in muffler..towards the front?
4th our orange coolent is halfway below the add and full with a rusty residue near top of filler cap? normal?
5th is most of these libs drive with temp gauge dead center? it normal but most cars ive had runs a bit to the cool side than 50/50 ....
please if anyone can give me insight to see if we didnt buy one that has been dogged out..we are first time jeep owners here, lucky we have a shop that does our cars that specailize in jeeps(well the cj/wrangler kinds) so if we need anything done theyd be our guys to go to...
last im real excited to about this car..so jeepish and rides like a dream! plus love the sunroof..we have put the car in 4x4 and just the feel and drive is 100% better than our ford explorer..it feels so meaty..if i can use that..
Please let me know your opinions and yay im part of the lib forum!

Welcome!!
Congrats on the new KJ, I'll try to help you out with a few of issues you have.
The temp guage usually sits right at about half, some sit a tiny bit lower..
Does it have a factory tow package? If so it will have the heavy duty cooling.
Also what transfer case do you have?
does it go 2HI 4HI N 4LO?
or 2HI 4PT 4HI N 4LO?
Not sure if your familiar with Jeep transfer cases but without 4 Parttime they need to be a slippery (snow dirt sand etc.)surface to engage 4HI, or else binding can occur especially around corners with it engaged.
It should not have vibs at really at any speed, I've gotten up to about 100 without any shaking at all.. Does it seem to go straight, possibly an alignment issue?
Also for the coolant I would be safe and just get a flush especially if it looks dirty, just be sure to use the right coolant (I personally use Mopar).
Exhaust having a drain hole.. I'm not sure, but you could always just throw in a Magnaflow, Flowmaster or even Thrush to get a nice tone and solve any issues.
What are your plans for your Jeep??
And we like pics!! :D

pic will come within the day, work is slow so im on here,,,lol...I love to do mods..have to see if partner is into it..he still cant wrap his head around that if u open up the air flow(intake/exhaust) u can make it faster and more fuel eff..but! it drives str8 no pull or unusal tire wear...and it almost sounds like..um...big treaded micky tompsons rolling to a stop, does that make since...like a rumble, so it could be me getting use to this new beefy ******, also notice u can actually hear the ****** esp in 1st to 2nd..like a lite whine? just the whole rear main seal going bad at 29k got me all worked up...yea ill have them flush the rad fluid, not sure if we should take it to dealer(have 60 days on warrenty) or go to the jeep specail guys..
Scares the hell outta me im lookin over the engine..to see no ****** dipstick, have to add(very little but!) power steering fluid, the funky lookin rad fluid, and a FORD MOTOR CRAFT oil filter on it..ouy!!!
another thing..most of these libs have a nice growl already???? it wont be used hard for trails..we are taking it off rd to the beaches on cape cod and the nice horrible winters we have here..thats about all..my partner isnt car legit, he barely gets over 60mph ...and im the one that has to look everything over to why or whats going on with our cars....but yes pics up by tonight..please keep in contact guys..just in case! lol

Welcome, this is an awesome site. I'll try to help a bit:

2. I think others have complained of "rumbling" or vibrations when the jeep is coming out of OD, usually having to do with the torque converter and being covered under warranty. Don't want to scare you with that, but just an idea. Hopefully something much simpler.
4. For the coolant, not sure where it normally sits at operating temp, but be careful with the antifreeze. It has to be the special HOAT (G05) spec.
5. My temp guage sits at about 49/100, pretty much center. Fairly certain this is the norm.

FYI for the belt on the 02 you're replacing, it's recommended to also change out the tensioner pulley as they tend to choke with the belt.

I wonder if you're still under warranty with your 07, you have less than 36k miles...

i was reading up on that with the 02 belt, so ill let him know...seem pretty acces for the engine and all...yea our temp is 49/100 to 50/50 just checking seeing the orange rad flud is nice and orange but the top part of plastic tank is kinda brownish color,,,and to all fairness like I said , I could be needing to get use to the whole feel of a jeep compared to a explorer sport...but yes Ill take it have rad flushed and buy a 06 ****** stick...

sorry let me back track....was 15,999 for our Lib..with 3k trade in from our explorer sport..walked away 12,999 for it owed...no extended warr on it...but we are never going back to the dealership again...I have a good feeling, when I took our other vehicles to our regular mech there is a convoy of cj,s and wranglers there all with lift kits and snorkel air breathers just to name a few..I am suggesting that if we do anything..even a oil change we take it there....and from recent reading I am assuming we have the Sport edition??? Black with black grille and black finders..grey inter cloth..sunroof 4x4 v6 power everything..I think thats it..I heard the limited has chrome..we have none...

Welcome and congrats on the black KJ.

If you are going to change out the antifreeze use only the HOAT (G-05) coolant. Prestone makes it and NAPA sells it. At the dealer the Mopar branded stuff is $$$$$.

Get a build sheet on it. Also check the hidden slot above the glove box opening for the owners manual. It has fluid specs etc in it.

yes saw the owners manual, and my first thing is to check ****** fluid..but I cant.!
What is this build sheet I reading about on here??? where can I get it for my Libby?
Thanks for anitfreeze suggestion..once I can get a break down manual for it ill do all my own fluid change..untill then..its going to DR WHEELS! the JEEP experts! tho reading all the other threads could be me and myself getting use to the ruggedness of the jeep, or it has something to do with ******/diff,,,ouy! at 30k? really? wonder if prev owner ragged it out!

.....lucky we have a shop that does our cars that specailize in jeeps........ im real excited to about this car..so jeepish and rides like a dream!.......we have put the car in 4x4 and

See the parts in bold. That's your problem right there.:D

Is the "chirp" a back up alarm?

If you can pull a service history on it, do so. Otherwise benchmark everything with fluid/filter changes. A low mile KJ like yours shouldn't suffer from any problems at all.

BALLS! I did say car didnt I?!! JEEP! JEEP! JEEP! its a freakin JEEP! which again might be a reason why Im skeeved out over the rumble...tho our 01 explorer sport didnt rumble like that...JEEP! JEEP! JEEP! Im going to write it out 100 times..btw the chirp, ur funny with the back up sound...ever heard new tires on new garage pavement..kinda sounds like that..every rotation of tire = one chirp..and only sometimes...I am baffled

The "chirp" sound could be a dry rear u-joint, or it could be a brake squeak. I would pull the rear drive shaft and inspect the joints back there. I have had problems with the anti rattle clips in the front and rear.

Oh the way you say it makes it that easy! lol....it hasnt done it in a while..Im still tryin to convince my partner to forget the dealership(where we bought it) and take it to our mech who specailizes in jeeps...at lease get fluid changes and courtesy check out...and also I drove it just to see how it was feeling..the ****** is very responsive, it aint affraid to down shift enough to get ur pep! I might just think the rumble Im feeling might just be the tire treads im feeling??? I dont know..will be going in within the week to get checked..and yes will post pics soon!

Not much to offer as I am a new (OLD) Jeep Liberty owner too.
Mines an 05 black with slate interior. Just got it. Has 80K, rides great on and off road and everything works - I'm happy.

Welcome to the site!!! I am a first Jeep owner too though its been almost a year since I got my Green 2006 CRD in limited trim with too many bells and whistles to speak of. You will love it for winter driving I was not stuck inside one day last winter except the one day it snowed in feet and a snow plow got stuck on the coner of my street and I decided since I didnt go to work best not to go out at all.

my temp gauge is at half too in the heat we have now with the A/C on but was lower more like 45% of the way in the winter but mine is a diesel so it could be different than a gas engine.

Just don't car it a car anymore and things will start looking up. you know every time you call a Jeep a car a cute little kitten dies.
