I keep the hood down, unless I am winching (makes a great shield) ... but you could keep it down the whole time.

What about your front plate? Alot of people, including me, live in places that require a front license plate. Is you plate easily re-mountable? Or, do you have to just remove it all together?

You can get a front license plate holder that fits into the front hitch (here it is all beaten up on mine):
