New Rear locker - Disable TC permanently?

Got a spartan locker installed recently. Its nice, its the type that clicks and unlocks when you turn.

Since ive had it installed, I notice traction control just screwing me over, seems to me the TC system would just be an interference with the locker having both wheels in the rear locked up. If it tried to brake one tire it would just slow the entire axle.

I imagine its common to permanently disable the TC system in this scenario? Any input or thoughts?

Interesting question but I believe the spartan would unlock if the brakes were applied to one side.

You might want to look into whether it’s legal to fully disable TC while on public roads as well—I remember hearing somewhere that it’s illegal to do so if your vehicle came factory equipped with it. Your dash will also be a permanent Christmas tree and will probably mess up your ABS as well unless you have some tricks up your sleeve.

Its certainly legal, All the TC does on the KJ is detect rear wheel slippage anyway. It cuts power to the engine I think as well, if im trying to pull out of a gravel driveway quickly it can be very irritating. The locker makes pulling out of the driveway a LOT better than the TC did before with the open diff.

As long as it does not disable ABS I will be fine. Just irritating to have to turn it off via the button every time.

I forget what year jeep you have, but if it has 3-channel ABS then it won't make a different for you; ABS will operate on both rear wheels simultaneously regardless. If you have 4-channel ABS, then more than likely if you've locked up only 1 wheel in the rear the locker will be "open" anyways at that point, as the differential in speed/torque will have popped it open.

Actually it is 100% illegal(ask your insurance company about it),you can not disable the TC without disabling the ABS.

The TC and ESP use the ECT and ABS to function and are tied into each other so if one system goes bad they all go bad.

Its not illegal, otherwise there would not be button to turn it off. Haha, come on guys. Google it, there is no law saying it is illegal. Whats "illegal" and "not condoned by insurance" are two very different things.

Its also well known modification in the VW GTI community (the button does not fully disable) , there is no law against disabling traction control. Driver is liable for any accidents, ultimately.

I will have to test the brakes before and after turning off using the button, its about time to bed in these EBC yellowstuff pads any way. Which by the way, are a huge upgrade over whatever garbage was on it before.

I haven't been a ******** offroader for years, but in my 06 Liberty the traction control has made the need for a locker unnecessary for me. Every uphill loose dirt moguled trail I've taken, the TC has kicked in and pulled smoothly without any slipping.

That button only makes the system less sensitive,all functions are still active.
