Hello all I am new to Jeeps but I am a proud owner of a 2004 Jeep Liberty Sport. I wanted to know just what exactly I had so i went to the dodge dealer and gave them my VIN and they gave me a print out of what came from the factory on my Jeep. GM calls these RPO codes.
First I wanted to findout about the Axles. The Codes that I have are DJJ (Axle-Front), DME (Axle Ratio - 3.73), and DRA (Axle - Rear, Corporate 8.25). I am guessing that I don't have a LSA. Does Jeep/Chrisler put a tag or a code on their axles to signify a LSA like GM and Ford do?

Also what is this YGE (5 additional gallons of gas)? Is this some sort of reserve tank?

Thanks Guys! I am sure to have lots more questions.

Thanks

Ryan

I dont know about the gas thing but I do know about the axle
if you look at the axle it should have 2 metal tags for LSD and 1 for open
also just so you know the LSD is not worth a dime
I had it in the TJ and replaced it shortly after getting it

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I think the 5 gallons of gar refer to the dealer adding 5 gallons to the tank(complimentary) to make sure you can drive it off the lot to a gas station. I'm serious here guy's
Yep every vehicle delievered to the dealers has 5 gallons of fuel in them. Some dealers will fill the tank when purchased. When I bought my KJ I got a voucher to fill the tank at any gas station in town.

There will be a sticker wrapped around the axle that tells you if its a LS or not. Sometimes the sticker comes off.

If you really want to know jack the rear end up and with the ****** in P try to spin one wheel. If the other wheel spins in the opposite direction then its open.

An LS ***** for anything besides onroad driving anyway.

Well I'm a noob too, so whats the diff between LSD and open? How does it affect you driving on road and off. My lib has the 2hi, 4hi and 4low.

With an open diff you can do this. Driveshaft remains static and the other wheel will rotate in the opposite direction.

Exactly. Now who is the newb.

With an open diff, torque is transferred to which ever rear wheel(when in 2wd) has the least traction. A Limited Slip differential 'tries' to transfer torque to the wheel with traction but there ability to do this is limited. If you lift a wheel off the ground the chances are the wheel off the ground will spin madly.

I checked the tag. It is an open diff! That *****! Just have to do a PowerTrax or something.

do something but NOT a power trax
I broke 2 of them back to back on easy to moderate trails ,both were run by the KJ open-open
I now have a Detroit locker ,full carrier replacement, and it is great
The plan is Detroit locker rear and True Track front on the KJ

oh and the Detroit is in the rear of my TJ
which has worse road manners than the KJ when both are open-open
I noticed little difference after the install but much better behaved compared to the power trax

also ,and this is my opinion, dont waste your money on a LSD for the rear
not worth the trouble on an IFS rig
you will lift your wheels way to much off road and no matter what any one says they do not work that great when all you have is 1 and you are spending more time on 3 wheels than 4

Not to beat a dead horse but I'm going to anyway. I had my lib up on a lift yesterday and the rear axle has only 1 tag, plus while spinning the left wheel the right went in the oppisite direction. So does that mean open diff, and from reading this thread its better than ls?
