Ton of snow here today, threw it in 4hi. It worked but i could feel some klunking above 10mph. Parked it and just went back out to run to the store. 4wd appears on the dash but im definitely not getting any movement up front. Just a lot of chatter from the transfer case. Tried the lever in multiple positions, same effect in 4lo. Its dark out so i couldnt see well under there but i can rattle the front drive shaft around. No movement in rear shaft with same effort. 2wd is an abortion in even the smallest amount of snow. Any input? Thanks!

Probably the ends of the front Dshaft are toast. They have serviceable (replaceable) CV joints on the ends. The one at the tcase side is usually the first to go. Boot (recessed) cracks and the grease is slung out and the joint fails. Replacements here (link):

When was the last time the Tcase was serviced? Should make sure the fluid is okay too.

BTW welcome! Fill out your info so we know what you have. Subtle differences over the years such as ****** and tcase.

Unless the front shaft is just destroyed, it will not keep you from having 4wd. If its that bad, you would be hearing noises in 2wd also.

Sounds like the tcase linkage is out of adjustment, hopefully...
