U think it could be the stalk/switch even though the lights and all work?

Yep although the Flasher Unit flashes nicely and flashes the cluster lamps and the indicator lamps at all 4 corners....there are wires going into the flasher unit from the Multifunction Stalk that swings left or right inside the Flasher Unit to flash the left or the right side flashers. You can check this in the logics..remove the Malfunction switch and check if these wires...a Black Wire going to Ground.. and a White/Light Blue and a Light Blue/White for direction. Logic Page 8W-52-2 in 2006 KJ Service Manual.

Multifunction switches fail a lot...make sure if you get one that it caters for Front Fog Lights or not. A member here posted a month or two back a picture of a non-OEM Switch that he located at a good price!;)

My factory multi function switch would turn the interior lights on randomly, replacement I bought does also. Been meaning to replace it with a new mopar unit.

Randomly the interior lights do turn on, & can stay on all by themselves.. Spooky~~ !!

Even with a new Mopar stalk, that's probably not it...
The interior lights seem to only turn on, sometime after you close the doors/hatch.
The battery run down protection should work in these instances, nope it's Casper at work~! Bcm issue..
My best guess, it has something to do with one of the door or hatch switches faulting, to turn interior lights on after door/hatch is closed.
To prevent this, I use the interior stalk, turn to full on & then to completely off, then close the door, seems to work.
The interior lights could be on for hours, and using the fob to lock turns them off again, go figure.

How many wires are in that bundle and where is it going? Maybe it is just the hitch wiring.

If it is, you can pull the panel out in the cargo area and bypass the wiring, just to see if thats the issue. I just installed the factory hitch wiring on my KJ this past weekend. You can unplug those connectors then plug them into them-self to bypass the hitch wiring.

It definitely seems like the wires are part of the hitch wiring, can I ask how you pulled that panel away? Mine feels like it's gonna break

Pull the bottom piece of trim up and off that goes across the bottom rear of the cargo area. You can then start at the bottom and pull the side panel out. The clips that go up along the side window pull towards the front of the Jeep. Wish I had gotten better pics. Getting those clips lined back up with the slots kinda *****. They will just fold over if you dont have it lined up.

And on the multifunction switch, Ive always wondered if it was a bad BCM. Its been doing this since 2007 and has left my battery dead a few times. I had to replace the original switch as my headlights started flashing off and on at night, NOT FUN. Sometimes I'll have my windows down in my garage and the interior lights will come on. Simply touching the multifunction swtich makes them go off, so I think its just another bad multifunction switch. I bought the cheapest one rockauto had, funds were a little tight then.

Weird, its saying my file is too large even though I've posted pictures before. Either way, I only have one of those white connectors back here, so it can't be that. Its weird that unlocking/locking doesn't make em flash even though the hazards work

I would really like to know what those wires go to..... Since it has the christmas tree fastener I assumed it was factory but maybe its aftermarket. They do make hitch wiring that just goes up and connects inline with the tail lights... Terrible setup IMHO. See if you think the wiring if going behind the tail light.

The wiring definitely goes up through the chassis behind the taillight. Since flashers work, but not when locking or unlocking, and no blinkers, I'm assuming the multifunction switch somehow fried itself.

There are different locking and unlocking features that can be programmed into the key fob, I don't know if lights are involved, but it might be worth a look before buying more parts.

I think lamp flashing when locking/unlocking the doors...maybe with a Beep at the same time...is one of the features that can be programmed into the BCM!;)

Check the Service Manual for your Jeep...there is a section on the BCM and what can be programmed into it!
