My '05, and many others, came with a transmission dipstick that's too long. It bottoms out and pushes the cap up an inch leaving the fill tube open. It'll push down all the way but it doesn't stay.
It's possible this is an engineering puzzle carmakers can't solve so they just gave up and put a lid on it.
