Noise as a result of mudding w/Pictures

Went through some pretty cakey mud today, had to get it up atleast to like 3krpm to get some movement. Anyway after getting off the trail and on the road i started to notice a noise from the front drive tire, sounded like metal rubbing against metal. It was something on the rotor i think. There was mud CAKED EVERYWHERE near my CVs in my brakes disgusting. The noise persisted then slowly disappeared then creeped back. Took it to the car wash and got a wash. I asked the guy if he could really try to clear the mud out and he was like sure no problem. He even said he was gonna run me thru twice for the price of one because there was so much mud gunked up in there:D:D. After the wash there is no noise. Anyone experience this? Is this something i should worry about?

Even after having the car wash place wash it, they can't get at some of the areas where the mud lives. Your best bet is to pull your wheels off and clean out the brakes (pads/calipers) and cv's (make sure the boots are cleaned out).

forget the auto car wash.

Get about $10 worth of quarters and head to the DIY spray wash. Get the high pressure nozzle all over under there.

What Kevin said.

While I haven't experienced any additional noises from mud, I HAVE previously experienced excessive engine vibrations!

And even after all of that, you will still have mud in every nook and cranny under there. After it all dries and easier to get out go under there with a screw driver and your hands and break it up and clean it out. Your skids are probably packed solid.

Nice pics.

I blew my electric fan out due to mud on it. Cleaned the mud off, but it was forever unbalanced. Warranty repair.

That's what I do, then come home and rea wash it. Spend about 45 mins at the car wash hosing it down under...

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Crap like that is why I stay out of the mud.

Mud = destroyed parts, seals and CV joints mostly.

When I used to mud drag race(not in the KJ) I would coat the undercarriage and body with used fryer grease,it works like a charm but don't plan on stopping if you get some on the brakes.Glad we had a coin operated car wash back home that you could rent the stall by the hour for $14.

Save your quarters and get a power washer. They work wonders around the house and all you have to pay for is fuel and water.

I guess it could help to have a dirt driveway like I do. Just need to park where I need to add some dirt. Look at it this way though you can clean your driveway off with your new toy.

nothin wrong with a bit of mud.. just make sure you slap a huge water puddle on your way off the trail or something.

or wash it shortly after.
