Odd oil leak and low pressure.

Ok I've done my research on this. Not much turned up. About the pressure light, I'm told to do oem, or factory, or after market. There seemed to be some debate.

Also an oil leak. I've done a little fixing before. But I have oil coming from a valve cover. SHOCKING!!! I know. I went out of town for few weeks and wife did me a "favor" and got my oil changed. Now I have leaks and a low pressure light. Goes on when I throttle down or slow down. When I get back on the gas the light goes off. But this oil leak is leaking directly on my exhaust which is making me nervous and very stinky.

So..... Outside a new sensor and a valve cover gasket.. Any ideas?

id do the sensor and gasket and see what happens. I'd think thats the problem. make sure you clean the sensor plugs etc. to make sure they are clean and not giving you the problems.

Also, go with Mopar...better safe than sorry. I've heard that the aftermarket one's go bad in a few months in some cases

Often times, but not always, when an oil pressure switch goes bad, it leaks. If you pull the plug and it's coated with oil, it's bad. Regardless, with yours I'd put on a new one and hope that's what it is.

That's a lot of hoping and praying it's the sensor. Lol
I heard about the slugging issue. Anything to help clean it out? I heard of marvel mystery oil. Any hate or praise for it?

Definitely Start with a OEM sensor & Gaskets as mentioned.
I used a can of Wynn's Engine tune up Link Product Details
and some Marvell Mystery oil recently.
That will clean things up & I changed the oil after a few hundred miles.
I know that Wynn's is not easy to find in the USA, still it should be at one of the car retailers.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll start with a MMO additive and new sensor and work from there. The leak is slow so hopefully I can figure it out.

I totally wish we can swap a 4.0 in these things. I miss my Cherokee.

the nitro KA is essentially a KK or liberty and they came with a 4.0 and a 6 speed.

I meant the straight 6 4.0. But good to know. I got this one for about 4k with less than 100k miles. It's just my daily. I needed to sell the crawler when I transferred here. Mine is an 04.

The engine was such an oil burning dog. My buddy blew his up with <100k miles.

I know they're known for longevity but dang I hate going that slow.

Never had a 4.0 in an XJ that didn't leak some oil, much rather have the 3.7
As far as your issues , repplace the valve cover on the passenger side, assume thats where the issue is, easy to do and there stops one of the problems. Your next one with the oil pressure is more than likely ( 98%) thats its just the sending unit, so its not really guessing or hoping. Most of us have been on these forums for years and when a question is asked like you have its pretty cut and dried as to what it is

Thanks for the heads up. Let's just say in my experience I've been known to hit that 2% of likely hood of being nothing. Lol. I just hope for the best but plan for the worst. I'll be doing the swap out sometime this weekend hopefully. Thanks for the help guys!!

Anyone know how to handle the red tab if pieces keep breaking off of it?

Any idea what size the sensor really is or what fits. I bought 25, 26, 27mm set and none seem to grab the sensor at all. Does it need to be a hex or 12pt or something?

27mm. has to be a deep socket.
I used a 6 point.

It is best to fit the socket from the top rather than from the bottom, I've found.
There's no specific torque value. Just till it is in snug.

New sensor should have thread sealant on it already.
