He has a 2.4 I4 gas engine, same one used in PT Cruisers and later model Neon's.

wouldn't be later model....would only be SRT-4....that's the only neon to get a 2.4.

there were several types of the 2.0 that were used, one of which was DOHC (otherwise known as the magnum), but all the neon's only got the 2.0 unless they were SRT's.

I guess that would be good if it was a pcv issue right? would be the least/no engine damage, i would think

What kind of clean up is going to need to be done. I assume there will be oil residue where it shouldn't be. Or will they fix the issue and let it burn out/off. couple bottles of injection cleaner?
appt is tomorrow

I've got the "02 version of the 4cyl 4X4 with a 5 spd. Around the same oil consumption ie. 1-1.5 litre between oil changes, no leaks, engine clean and no sign of burning with 114k km on it (about 72k miles). Use whatever oil is cheap so no synthetic, they'll probably say its normal useage for such a powerful motor..........

In truth, I looked for the 4cyl when i bought and am happy with it, even have a hitch and tow my boat or ATV with it, although if I turn my air on I lose a bit of power.

Happy to see you guys around. For a while, thought these didn't even exist out in the real world, only Autotrader and eBay. lol3.gif

I've been a lurker for a long time esp. on Lost, . Just a lot of learning, w/o much to contribute.

I have a hitch on mine also, for the boat/ trailer etc. Biggest problem with that is 1st being geared to high. I really have to ride the clutch or put it in low. And that can be difficult if im putting in at a paved launch.

Took in the KJ for inspection. They don't see any leaks. So they changed the oil and marked the plug. We have to drive it for awhile and see what/how much oil consumption we are talking about.

According to the chrysler warranty print out info......
normal oil consumption for a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles is 1 qt for every 1000 miles is considered normal.
for a vehicle with over 50,000 miles 1 qt for every 750 miles is considered normal.

SO, I will have to go through more than 1 qt in 750 miles in order for it to be considered a problem/ repairable under warranty.

Seems like a lot to me, but I know that different manufacturers have different standards as to what is normal for oil consumption.

Out of curiosity, is this 2.4 a mitsubishi or chrysler motor? In our other vehicle we have the 2.4 mitsu and we don't use that much oil. Different design, but just wondering for my own personal info bank.

WOW!! The corolla we had ALMOST feel under that. It was a few quarts over that. :D

Im pretty sure we dont burn a quart of oil between 4 Jeeps in 3,000 miles(3,000 on each Jeep).
