Hello all I was wondering if someone could help me? I have a 04 jeep Liberty it has 219000 miles on it and I am experiencing oil loss some where but the thing is that it does not leak any oil from the motor the only oil leak I have is a ps hose leak and I'm getting ready to fix but I can't for the life of me figure out where it is going because for the amount of oil i'm loosing you would think it would be smoking like a freight train because I probably have to add about 3 to 4 quarts between oil changes which is 3500 miles if it was burning it wouldn't it be smoking? any ideas in this matter please someone help it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out.

but see that's what I can't figure out where it would be going because there isn't any kind of smoke or smell of oil anywhere and if you accelerate hard no smoke from the exhaust. it's got me puzzled maybe I should listen to my wife and trade it off it's been a good vehicle tho still is just has this oil issue

try changing the PCV and see whether it helps.
I don't see blue smoke in mine either but I do notice the slight oil burning smell with mine.

Welcome to the club.

This engine is know to have leaks on the passenger side valve cover.

The hot catalytic converters do a good job in burning off the oil before exiting the tailpipe, so often you wont see it coming out blue.
If the jeep was to sit overnight cold, and you fire it up, you may see some blue if the stem seals are worn.
The way to see the blue from rings, is to at night, floor it, when headlights from a car behind offer visibility in rear view mirror. You may see it then.
As mentioned check/replace the PCV valve, they can get plugged up with oily gunk.
Also where you fill with oil down the neck, pull the baffle inside & have a peak in there, how does it look?
Adding a bottle of STP (blue bottle) of oil treatment, may help.

What TC said about the cat converter. Oil loss can be an external leak, but with the amount you're talking about, you should be seeing a trail and puddle. The other option is a worn out engine with sloppy rings, valve guides/seals that's burning the oil. There's no other magical way the oil would be "disappearing". Pull some spark plugs and see what they look like. If they're burning oil that badly, they should be a bit chunky.

ok thanks guys I will try all these suggestions and see if it helps actually I have a brand new pcv valve I need to install may do that tomorrow guess I'm going to have to face the fact that my ole jeep is just getting worn out it's been a good vehicle and actually up until now haven't had much trouble with it but some of the maintenance items I've neglected is starting to catch up with me. one more question if that passenger side valve cover is leaking like I've read it has a tendency to that could possibly be my source of oil loss couldn't it? and all that would be noticeable would be some oil smell cause it would be dripping on the exhaust manifold and the only time I might smell it would be at slow speeds such as in town. or am I just grasping at straws?

Mine leaked from the front and rear main seals. Still leaking from the rear. Oil never hits the ground though. It blows away at speed. I see traces of oil towards the transfer case.
