2003 Liberty, 3.7L engine, auto transmission. P1899-Park/neutral safety switch out of adjustment or bad switch. Where is the switch located and how do you adjust it. I've looked at the transmission near the shift bar area and don't see it. Is it in the console near the shifter? Tony

It will be on your build sheet.

If you have the 45RFE trans it's part of the solenoid pack that sits on top of the valve body and is a $700 part, and yes the valve body must be dropped to change it.

Well, got the build sheet and it is the 45RFE. What is the valve body? Is that the whole ******?

OK, got the bad news on replacing the switch. Maybe it just needs to be adjusted. Does anyone know how to adjust the cable? Looks like the adjustment might be in the shift console.

Part of the solenoid pack, the NSS is not serviceable by itself for the 45RFE.

So TJKJ.......Are you saying that a P1899 code is 100% a bad solenoid pack. If I'm going to change it, I want to be sure that this will clear the code.
Thanks for your input.

Without hooking up a scan tool and seeing what the TCM is seeing compared to actual gear selection I can not say 100%.

But if you have all the gear ranges and they are correct for the shifter, like when in "P" your in park and "R" your in reverse and so on then I'd have to say it's most likely the NSS is bad.

I replaced the solenoid pack and it cleared the code (P1899). Thanks everyone for the help.
