When my 2005 CRD was stock I went from Albuquerque to Modesto, CA and back and got 27 mpg average for the trip. Once lifted 1.5" and KO2 larger tires, my mileage went to about 24 highway and 20 town. I hear that folks at lower elevation get even better mileage. But with those tires and the lift, that Jeep went almost anywhere. Only problems I had were a leaking fuel filter housing (caused stalls) and blown turbo hoses (fixed with silicone hoses). My granddaughter is driving it now.

all 02 to 04 are the same body wise
with 05 to 07 being the same
some parts will interchange but others , no some different trim etc
plus then you get into the regular hoods and 05 Renegades were flat hoods
Yes CRD parts are getting harder to find and of course work on, finding parts getting harder as time passes
Unless you are very well versed in diesels you may want to look at gassers

Even when brand new a lot of dealerships were dumfounded when it came to CRDs
Our local dealer refuses to service Cherokees that are more than ten years old.

6) Physically cut off the ability of the EGR system to operate. This does not mean remove the EGR valve completely; simply remove the tube running from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve and install a 1-way check valve in the EGR valve to allow it to continue to be used as a turbo-blow-off valve."

Any chance you can post pictures of this mod? Apparently I'm too much of a dumdum to figure out how to do it on my own

What he is suggesting is a non return valve in the metal pipe from the exhaust to the EGR valve, the later non waste gate controlled turbos apparently use the EGR to dump excess pressure in some situations. So a valve with the block side to the exhaust will act as a dump line. You could also use a blow off valve set to just above normal boost pressure to cap the boost, that could go into the hoses around the intercooler somewhere.

In South Africa the Jeep Dealers suddenly announced that they will no longer supply Parts or Service to any KJs with immediate effect!
This just as I was busy booking my 2002 CRD in for replacement of the Rear Crankshaft Oil Seals!

Nursing my CRD along now!
