First off, I'd like it to be known that I use Amsoil so I do not change oil as often as normal. It has been cold where I live and it came time to change the oil in my '04 with 15K miles. When I took of the filler cap I noticed a lot of foamy stuff. My first thought... pcv valve. I took the valve out after cleaning up the foam and noticed that it was probably stuck and really gummy. I didn't mess around with it and just picked up a new one. To be safe I took the whole ventilation tube off and let all the water that was in it drain out. I also blew it out with compressed air. Anyway I guess my question is that does everyone have trouble with the factory PCV valve? I also ran into the same problem with my 03 in which I replaced the valve and never saw the problem again. If anyone is bored, go check and see if you have the same thing. Just curious I guess. Thanks.

The condensation you saw is fairly common for the 3.7 and 4.7 but Ive never saw it using Mobil One.

Everyone says its just condensation in the oil from short trips and/or the type of environment you drive the Jeep in. It could just be a bad PCV valve. Ive always thought it was linked to using cheap oil too.. Maybe Amsoil is cheap. :p

At first I didn't see your just kidding. ....:p

I usually drive for at least 10 minutes each time I take it out. It is a daily driver, but the trips are not short besides the ever so often trip to the grocery. I don't think the type of oil has anything to do with it, or am I wrong? Anyway, thanks for the replies.

rockymountain................I had/have the same problem. I do my own oil changes so I know I never had it before. But I checked it one day when I was getting close to an oil change and it was there. I changed the oil/filter and also the pcv valve. When I took the old pcv valve out I didn't see any in there and it was not clogged up but I changed it anyway since I bought it. There was nothing in the rubber tube either.

A couple of days later I talked to a mechanic friend and he told me that he thought that 10-15 miles is still a short trip. It takes 10 miles to just get everything warmed up in this weather and I would have to run it 30 miles down the interstate to burn off all the condensation. So I don't know???

What I do know so far is that I checked the car (99 Cutlass) 2x now and no sign of it there ever and it is driven the same as the KJ. So I get it in the KJ but not in the car. So I am at the point of wondering if there is something in the design of the 3.7 that perhaps does not let it burn off as easy??? There is a difference in the filler neck construction on both though. The car oil filler neck is much shorter and aluminum (actually part of the head) and the KJ has a composite/plastic taller filler neck. (Maby it collects easier in the taller plastic???) They are both v6 aluminum head over iron block motors of a similar size. I know I am gropeing in the dark here for straws.

I would think everyone that does their own oil changes sees this quite often. I tend to think it's just the black filler cap/neck that collects it. Perhaps the plastic. Both my nissan and my jetta have direct oil fill spots (right on the engine, no real filler neck) and they never seem to collect that white foam. I use the same oil/filter brand on all 3 (mobil 1 syn) I don't think it's a big deal, but I'll go ahead and get a new pcv and blow and out and check as well.

It doesn't matter what oil you use I think, It's just that all the crap floats to the top, I changed out my pcv at 50k.
