Took my aftermarket hitch off for this as well.

I don't care if someone has to pay more for their new vehicle as a result. I don't abuse the system in any other way, never get anything else free, and am never going to buy a new car because the depreciation is ridiculous, and frankly Chrysler hasn't got anything desirable.

It will increase the cost of all company's vehicles, not just Chryslers.
Nothing is free.

Kinda ***** for me, I just had an aftermarket hitch put on recently...... This whole thing is BS anyway. Lots of vehicles have the gas tank in the back with no problems.

That matters to me how?

my hitch was rusty as all heck when I put it on 3 weeks ago. And not mopar, which I would obviously prefer. I'll take the handout.

I don't buy new cars every year, or ever for that matter. not because I can't afford payments, but for the simple fact that you get more bang for your buck off a minorly used vehicle.

if you want to complain about increasing costs, ***** about obamacare, cash for clunkers, etc. Enough said.

Why so defensive?
These kind of things effect a lot more than new vehicle and used vehicle cost.
All in the end effect us, with higher costs.
I'm not opposed to safety or standards but this seems to be excessive.

OK just heard that not only will everyone get a free hitch, but they will also paint your KJ any color you want, give you a new interior with heated seats and leather

lmfao

now that would be something.

I just see it as a free upgrade. never taken unemployment, handouts, welfare, or anything of the like in my life. I'll take a free hitch.

agreed...free hitch, why not. Chrysler didn't help me out when I had to put almost $3000 into my engine at 87,000 miles (1000 miles out of warranty) because of their crappy valve springs.

The position of the gas tank was one of the first things I noticed before buying it. Still bought it with the intention of a fuel tank skid and hitch. Was going to buy a hitch on the next paycheck. Not trying to get free stuff but it does help and makes me feel better. Those 65 to 0 mph stops on the mass pike happen instantly and really make me nervous. Not that a hitch will prevent someone from blowing through the whole rear end but its just a little bit of extra from low speed hits.

I just love how many on many social media sites are so happy about this and talking smack about Jeep. "Jeep's are trash, that's why I drive a ______." Combine that and the mainstream media playing this up and it's just ridiculous.

Thanks to Jaber for starting the thread and others for chiming in.

As you digest the news reports coming out, I wanted to give you a link to Chrysler Group's response and why we disagree with NHTSA's position: http://www.chryslergroupllc.com/Inv...hryslerDocuments/NHTSARecallWhitePaperNew.pdf. (The three-page white paper is in addition to the news release Jaber posted.)

I can't answer any questions but wanted to be sure you get all sides of the issue.

If I can be of help on other issues, please let me know.

This post sums it up best IMO. It's a witch hunt. Nothing more.

I have a Jeep Liberty, and it has a gas tank. Sometimes when the gas tank gets close to empty, I put more gas in it, NICE!!!! :dancingpoop: :893Chainsaw-Smilie- :anitoof:

You know what the best part of the whole thing will be?
Standing back watching some poor Tech cleaning all the rust out of the nuts in the frame to install a hitch. Feel sorry for some of them since there will be a ton of rust, nuts rusted completely out , then what will they do ?

I do feel sorry for them on that. It took forever to clean the rust out of mine so I could even get a bolt started, forget getting it up tight.
