I am getting a radar detector for Christmas from my wife. She is also getting the hardwire kit for it as I hate having the coiled wire running over the dash and into the cig lighter. I need the best way to run the wire to hardwire it so it gets power when the key is turned on.

I figured the best place would be to the EVIC. It already has a good place to run the wire through the same hole that the electric mirror wire runs through with the radar sitting just inder the mirror. Is there a good wire to tap into in there? And if there is, how can I tell which one it is? Is there a DIY on how to unhook the EVIC housing so I can get to the wires?

Or, is there another way to run it. Around the front of the dash and down to the fuse box with the radar sitting down close to the dash?

How would you do it?

The Transmission question... How can I tell which transmission I have? Is there a sticker I can look at? Info plate?

You have the 42RLE ******. The 02 and some 03 kj's had a 45RFE, but they started using the 42RLE on all the newer ones.

I would run a wire from the radio for the battery power. There are two different wires, one for power all the time and one for ACC power.

Thanks.

Hmm. I didn't want to start getting into radio pulling, but it would make a good power supply if I tapped into the ACC.
