Re-gearing questions

I keep hearing people talking about re-gearing with bigger tires and stuff and I'm wondering what thats all about. I don't really know much about car mechanics and am wondering what the benefits are. I have 255/70 r16 tires on my jeep but no re-gearing, would it be recommended to re-gear and how complicated is it and how costly?

As I understand it, you need to either regear the differentials, or find a Sport model with the 4.10 diffs to salvage.
