What year is your KJ and what year is the donor axle from? It could be a yes or no answer. They used different flanges(yokes) on different years so a new/modified rear driveshaft maybe needed and a '06+ 8.25 will not work due to a 4 channel ABS system in a '02-'05 KJ with or without ABS(3 channel ABS).Then if you got a '02 you'd have to swap the brakes as '02's have drums and '03+ have discs.I am wanting to swap my 8.25" open rear axle.

Why swap?
Did you bend the housing?
Easy and cheep to rebuild?
Then yes it will be a direct swap with zero mods needed regardless if you have ABS or not. Both Liberties are 2005 models.
.
I still fail to see the reason for this swap
What is wrong with the diff you have?
Most mechanics can easily rebuild an 8.25
The donor vehicle has factory TracLock and his Jeep has the open diff.
Bob
The donor had 43,000 plus Mi. on according to the jeep.com inquiry, the odometer had 47,000 plus on it. Private party had it, was literally totaled by Grandma (in the front). My two Sons who are both ASE mechanic's pulled the rear end and checked it over pretty well. The reason for swapping the complete rear end is money. Just the labor cost to have a Locker or Limited Slip Unit in is at least $300-$400 more than the complete rear end.
Average install of a locker/LSD around here is $250-$350(solid axles),ARB's and electric lockers are a little more due to housing mods needed. The donor had 43,000 plus Mi. on according to the jeep.com inquiry, the odometer had 47,000 plus on it. Yeah
You have 2 ase mechanics doing the work
So labor is free
A DTT is $400-$500 but it works and will have 0 miles
a much better route
Correct on the income/pension part!
The axle was $50, and since it's still in the low 100's F during the day the adult beverages for later, will run another $20-$30.
I drew a set of plans for a roof rack for my 2005 liberty and my younger Son is welding it this week. New steel tubing cost $36 dollars, finished rack will weigh about 23lbs. Better than $150 and up for almost anything that can be bought here.
