Rear end knock after Ironman lift

Looking at the pics I think those coils are in upside down :shrug:

You think so? I see no slack around the bump stops. Also the model number inscription is not upside down. Dunno really.

It looks like the top ring is narrower than the lower ring. Isn't that the case?

Yes top is more narrow than bottom

The springs are installed correctly then.

I double checked all the suspension bushings both visually and using a prybar. Nothing there. The shocks are snug, too.

Still the knocking is there. Moreover, I can feel something hitting against the chassis when the knocking occurs. I' be sitting in the back with somebody else driving and I'd put my hand against the floor and I could feel vibration with each knock.

I guess I'll attach a camera down there and try looking at the suspension parts while the knock happens. If that does not help I will start removing Ironman parts and putting OEM parts back in to see which part causes this. Can't really think of anything else.

You've changed the angle on a lot of things with the lift
I start looking under it for e-brake cables hitting, ball joint on the tri-link and things like that

That's it right there.

On mine the e-brake cables had a section that was worn where the guide on the boomerang had rubbed a 'slot' on it. When I lifted mine the guide was now in a different place on the e-brake cable and when I hit bumps the guide would "catch" on that slot on the cable and would give a nasty pop or knock. Because the boomerang is attached right below the rear seats anyone sitting back there would get a surprise when it would pop - they said it felt like the suspension was breaking.

That slot has now worn down and the pop/knock is gone too. Check the e-brake cables and the guide they go through - I bet there's a slot on yours too :waytogo:

OP ever figure out what was going on ? having a similar issue with same new lift.
I see the ebrake cable is at the very top of that guide on the boomerang so maybe when going over bumps its pulling the cable down some and smacking it up against the undercarriage :shrug:

I'm going WAY OUT on a limb here and predict the OP will find that at least one of the tri-link bushings is toast...probably the one on the passenger side...the bolt will be torqued just fine but the bushing material is history...

good call, checked them out today, bushing material is fine but the front half of them are raised off the mounts about 1/2 inch.... my guess is from when i dropped the rear axle down to get the springs in with the tri link still attached.

My tri link bushings are shot and having more stress placed on them after my lift doesn't help. I don't have any noises but will be replacing tri link soon and adding a extension at same time.

Extension helps for sure
even say at 3 inches bushings are on a bind

Do you use the JBA extension on any of your Jeep's Tom. I a read post somewhere saying you installed one and later removed and sold it. What was the reasoning for removing it? Did you upgrade or just personally didn't like it?

I use them at times
Yes had one, someone wanted it while they were here getting a lift so removed and sold it LOL
I have a spare one out in the garage anyways already mounted to a new tri-link ready to go

thats on my list of things to get relatively soon, along with new front uca's, and tires.... which will lead to bigger lift...then even bigger tires, then regear .... and this all started from researching how to change an isolator on the front suspension....:gr_grin:

How often does the trilink get shot due to the installation of the lift?
Would it be advisable for people installing a lift to disconnect the trilink before installing their lift?
