I need to install a new seat belt buckle for the middle and driver's side seat belts in the backseat (the part you buckle into), as I did not realize I was missing that when I bought my Jeep (who checks the rear seatbelts??).

Any suggestions on the best place to get this part? Jeep dealer, OEM site, auto parts store, junkyard?

And has anyone ever had experience installing this? The only experience I have was installing new seat belts in a '39 Ford. I assume its simple enough as bolting it to the existing anchor point, but let me know if there may be anything else involved.

Thanks!

Junkyard would be ok...although I'd make sure they weren't messed up somehow from whatever accident the Jeep was in, probably were under some force if they were being used at the time.

Install is probably easy as you said, they use a Torx bolt I'm guessing.

Sure they're not just down in the crack? Mine were shoved down there from folding the seats flat often.

Unless they are really good at hiding I'm pretty sure they are gone. I can take a photo of the underside of the seat if you want but I can't see anywhere they could possible get sucked into.

Top photo us the slot between the middle and left seat where the double buckle should be. Bottom photo is the right buckle as reference. Took a closer look at the other buckle and the anchor plate seemed to be simple enough. Just need to get ahold of the the part and we'll see if it is.

The easiest way to get to them is to remove the 10mm bolts holding the seat bottom to the floor. Lift the seat bottom to reveal the 15mm bolts holding the "twin" buckles in the middle; there are two bolts, one for each buckle. There's a post over which one end of each buckle will fit in the center between the bolts; the bolts go at the top and bottom of the assembly. This will all make more sense when you see the buckle assemblies you'll get from a scrap yard (which is where I'd get it.) Though the two buckles go together they are separate units.

The driver's side buckle uses a 15mm bolt and and 18mm nut. As with the center buckle, lift the seat bottom to get to them. Hopefully the nut and bolt are still in your Jeep - if not be sure to get them from the yard where you get the buckles.

Once the buckles are in replace the 10mm bolts holding the seat bottom in place.

P.S. The project will create fewer cuss words if you have an assistant to hold up the seat bottom while you put in the buckles ;)

Wrap the seatbelt around the seat and lock the seatbelt. Will hold it up just fine.
