Rear upper control arm...

2006 Jeep Liberty purchase a few months ago. Replaced a bad upper control arm while doing a two and a half inch lift. Have the Jeep on a lift today I noticed the upper bushings are torn and falling apart already. Is this common when the Liberty is lifted only 2.5 inches?

Cheap, China from amazon. I didn't think that part mattered that much. Moog this time!?

The cheap ones are pure junk from the get go, go at the very least Moog, MOPAR is way better
I had to run one of the cheaper ones years ago due to backorders on MOPARs, lasted a couple of months

FWIW, I'm running a Napa Supreme one (think it's made by spicer), one with the blue boot, been there a few months and on a few off road trips, it's been good.

The MEVOTECH CMS25156 has a blue boot also and its half the price of the napa unit. Wonder if its the same thing?

Moog bushings are just $21 on amazon, not sure how tough it is to get the old ones out. Ive got a press so I may give it a go.

Yep, that's the same one. Oreillys has it too. I just got it locally since I figured if it breaks it'll be easier to swap out. I think most people have issues getting the bushings out, the arm just bends.

I tired to press them out with a ball joint press a few years ago, and it ends up crushing the control arm. Let me know if you have better luck.

I did it successfully once with a shop press, but it was finicky to say the least. I wouldn't bother or suggest anyone else does. It was tough keeping it from collapsing like a pop can and mine is rust free.

i have never done a lift on anything. but i have worked with a few guys that did. of course that was 20 years ago, so things have changed. but it seemed like a lift kit meant finding answers for things that went wrong because of the lift. can you maybe make a sturdy spacer that would allow the original geometry to be maintained?

I have Moog bushings that have proven its durability for me. I installed 2' inch lift kits and two years ago and I decided to replace bushings for added peace of mind. It's just around $21 at Amazon. Another one to consider is Mevotech parts if you will be replacing kits. There's a link article comparison between the two, those are good aftermarket parts for Jeeps.

I replaced the original upper arm with a NAPA high $ too. That was last Nov and it’s already bad. I ordered a complete rear setup from Iron Mtn and it arrived today. Going to install Saturday!!
