since the cop was sitting waiting to pull into traffic right where it happened, the ******** got ticketed, cop said he could not get me for not having my vehicle under control due to the way it happened.

Glad it worked out for you. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. I was following a guy closely on a left turn through the intersection. As soon as we got through the intersection he slammed on his brakes coming to a complete stop. Luckily, i managed to stop in time. If i had hit him i would have probably been liable for at least 50% if not all here in Canada. He probably wanted insurance to give him a new car as he was driving some beat up import.

wow.. seeing those pictures and hearing the stories makes me really glad i went with the ARB... it is seriously night and day between it and stock. atleast if i bag a deer my KJ wont need fixed. or bag a honda in tom's case

Yup, around here you'd probably be charged for "following too closely" without the officer witnessing it like that. Standard charge for a rear-ender.
