Hello. I have had issued with the key not turning in the cylinder. I have already replaced the actuator pin. Still sticking many times. I have read some stuff on the web about the cylinder pins mushrooming. There is no locksmith in my area that is willing to touch it. I found a Dorman replacement cylinder with keys at Advance auto parts and i was wondering if anyone has replaced this with success. I am concerned as i have gray colored keys about them programming. Any advice is much apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the graphite powder that can be blown into the key slots to help lubricate the tumbler?

Does your Jeep have the SKIS system installed....with chips inbedded in the plastic section of the key? Looking at the one answer to a question to the supplier these keys supplied do not have chips.

I am not too sure what you mean by having gray colored keys...my Export CRD has black keys with the SKIS key inbedded in them.

If this system comes without coded keys and you do have SKIS installed on your Jeep you would have to try fit the coded chip into your new keys...and you would keep the original keys for the doors. Or you would need to purchase blank coded keys and have them cut for the new tumbler and have the PCM re-programmed for the new codes.

I have found with other vehicles that I have owned that if you remove the central worn out section of the tumbler and insert the key back in the central section...you will see some of the brass inserts protuding when they should be flush with the outer surface...due to the keys/brass inserts wearing out.

If you file these protuding brass sections flush, with the key inserted, then the key should work again....may be worth opening the tumbler to see what is going on inside there.:icon_eek:

If Bill's recommendations as to a file does not work...
Have you tried looking for an automotive locksmith/mobile? They should have no problems in dealing with the problem.
The Grey key does have the Sentry chip, and I keep a non chip key on my wallet, to use as a door entry key, should I ever somehow lock my other keys inside.

Thanks for responding. I will try the graphite solution for a few days and then tackle the tumblers. Thanks!
