What is the lifespan of the engine belts? And how often do the pulleys require greasing, if any? I am hearing some squeaky noises from that area.

Depends on how much wear it's got. I've seen belts go 50-60K and I've seen some ready to change after 30K. As for the pulleys, I believe they are all 'lubed for life' so if one starts going bad you just replace the whole unit.

Thanks Kevin, do you know if there is a place to buy quality belts, packaged by make/model so everything can be bought in one shot? I think the weather in NY is eating up the belts. With regular life of 50k, I believe at 40k, they might be ready for changing.

Just need the one serpentine belt on the KJ...and you can get it from your favorite auto parts store.

At 65K my belt broke off on the interstate, drove it without a belt to the nearest parts store (prolly not a smart idea). If you think your belt is bad, replace it. I bought the Goodyear Gatorback Poly-V.

Yeah, cheap insurance and you can always put the old one under the rear seat for an emergency. I don't haul a lot of tools around with me but I've usually got what I would need to do this or other minor roadside repairs.

Hyedipin..........Yes, good idea Corwyyn. Throw the old one under the seat "just in case".

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I replaced my OEM belt at about 10,000 miles, nothing was wrong with it but I stash it in my KJ for those just incase moments. Also Dayco makes a replacement belt tensioner for the KJ,got mine at Advance Auto Parts for about $50,1 bolt to replace it(15mm),the OEM tensioner is junk, went through 3 OEM ones until I said screw warrenty and got the dayco one,no problems in 35,000 miles with it.

The belt is also very easy to change. On the old 4.0 you had to loosen all the bolts on the power steering pump and loosen another bolt that loosened the belt. It *****.

The KJ has an auto tensioner. One bolt and a ratchet takes the belt off.

I may replace the tensioner at 60k just to be safe. $50 isnt much if it will keep you off the side of the road at some point.

How many miles do you have on your Jeep huseyin?

Wow, I already have almost 82k on mine (Still original). I check it every oil change when I check the belt and don't seem to have any problems. Guess mine was a 'Wednesday' tensioner... ;)

which one? there are bunch of different sizes/length
Thanks.

Part number GTR-4060875 at Summit. Also if you have a parts store you near you (NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto, etc..) you can buy it there.

It says it only for 2002-2003, did anything change on the accessory drive?

Checked the Goodyear website: http://www2.goodyearbeltsandhose.com/arp1/jsp/StartCarSearch.jsp

Said you need P/N 4060868, but according to summit it doesn't fit the KJ 3.7L

Advance Auto Parts says the same.

You are right. It looks like something changed??

I wonder if you got the part # from the dealer and then tried to cross reference it. I could check on Monday.

I've got pdf's of both the '03 and '05 KJs, took a look and it calls out the same number for the serpentine belt - 53032037AK. Doesn't look like anythings changed but I'd have to open hoods to be sure (which I can do later if needed).
