If I shift to drive too soon before a complete stop while reversing, nothing crazy just jumping the gun, there's a dead moment nothing happens. I've never experienced this any automatic transmission in my over 50 years of driving. What's up?

Check your transmission fluid level
I have, it's fine. I bought it 6 yrs ago used of course with 170000 miles. It appears to have been submerged 1/3 with front end deeper about 3/4. I bought it just after I was in a headon and fully concused. All I noticed it was clean (no rust, Minnesota in December) didn't noticed the 'water line' until I drove it home-20 miles. Runs fine except for miss in cylinder #6.
It appears it was flooded down in Florida, fluids changed out and driven up to Minnesota and sold.
