2007 auto jeep liberty 3.7 does not back up when in reverse. All of the gears work fine but when in reverse it does not move when trying to accelerate. We tried changing the transmission fluid and filter and it did not get any better

I have this same problem but only when you want to back up in a slope. Try to use your 4x4 if you have it

Is it a new box or a second hand one?
Not sure if just unplugging it would do it, it would be purely in mechanical mode then.

One of my XJ's developed that fault: it will only reverse in low, on the level & with the wheels straight ahead - but if I get out & lean against the B-pillar it will go faster than in neutral. Go figure. Time was when you could get an XJ for the cost of having a trans repaired - & I suspect KJ's are in that position now.

Different trans, very similar issue - so will be following this with interest, as have no idea what the problem is, much less the fix.

Remove the fuse that powers the transmission
