Hey all, i am planning a trip to silver lake dunes in Michigan. Anyway, i am toying with the idea of taking the KJ instead of the quads. Anyway what say you guys? My KJ is a stock renegade, with open diffs:(. will the KJ make it on the dunes.

I suppose i see hummer H2/3 on the dunes, so i see no problems, just looking for other people who have done this.

cheers,
Steve

Make sure you have a way of getting out if you end up getting stuck! Winch, quad, another 4x4 etc...

Air down! You don't need much in way of psi on the sand... people have told me 15 or less is sufficient.

btw.. "just flooring" it is a perfect way to have 4 tires buried to the axle

sand has a lot to do with throttle control, slow gradual throttle and just enough of it to go the speed you want and let the sand stop you rather than using brakes

air down and have at it, and don't forget to have fun ;)

Plan on doing some digging and a toe strap to go with the hooks also some of the water holes can get deep as we have had lots of rain.
FYI there is a great pizza place in Heart and Pentwater is a good place to let the ladys go to when you play on the dunes for the day.
Silver lake is fun O dont forget to ride the go-carts a night love the slider track
HAVE FUN and think safety lots of danger at chalange hill

4X4 is not required I have seen 2 wheel drive work trucks rocken the hills.
Been to silver lake many of times with my KJ. Air down to about 12 PSI any lower and you will blow the bead off the rim if you don’t have bead locks. Been up test hill many of times. I got pictures floating around on my profile page. Go for it and I’m sure I will see you out there sometime.

ok my bad....maybe the front end of the liberty is too heavy or maybe the sand was too loose and too "deep" wher I tried it...the point it the rear wheels had no problem they kept pushing (both of them) real nice but the front and just kept going down until the rear couldn't push it anymore...

I aint trying it again until later :D

from been the one wheel wonder...the aussie locker is the best mod I've done to it....it feels way better....just don't get to crazy with the skinny pedal when wet and turning or you will end up with a bent axle like I did.....ive installed twice.....its real simple man

Going there the second week of July. This will be 2nd time for the KJ and 7th time for me. Love every minute of it and the KJ was a champ on the dunes. I ran open last year in 4 low and it worked great. AIR DOWN. Although a buddy of mine forgot to put his XJ into 4 wheel and made it around for awhile with no trouble....just took him 3 or 4 attempts to get up some of the dunes. I had to laugh last year there were guys with wrangler unlimiteds that were afraid of going up the dunes and were just watching and driving around on the flat spots.....There is a really nice gentelman that runs a Jeep only shop down the main road to silver lake from the dunes. He let my friend and I borrow tools use his air needless to say a great member of the jeeping community, stop in a say hi.
