Scangauge..........so who has one and what gauges do you watch mostly and why.

I have had mine for almost a year or so and have watched all the gauges from time to time. Mine is sitting right on the steering wheel hump on the dash and it is right in my field of vision.

Lately I have settled to watching GPH and Instant MPG on the left side (for grins) and FWT and the Tach on the right side.

What gauges are you watching most and why. I am curious.

Why the need for all those gauges?

Unless your in a race car the more gauges you have the more likely you will be distracted.Plus those mpg gauges are never right. No need for a second tach either since the one already in the dash is reading the same # as the SGII.I never look at my gauges anyway,I use my ears and touch for most of my gauges.

I've seriously thought about getting one of these just because I like to know what the actual oil pressure, trans temp, and things like that.

I want to get one to read battery and oil. Trans temp must be real hot on mine. :D But that fun is not worth $100.
Only if it were to come with a fancy screen, or possibly getting a head unit with gouges built in. I think Kenwood had it, right?

haha, you crack me up sometimes tjkj. So you feel the engine to make sure its not over heating when driving down the hw?

Lately Ive been watching the instant mpg, volts, FWT, and inatke temp. Its pretty neat to watch that intake temp and watch how high it goes after you shut a hot engine down then restart it a few minutes later. So far the mpg has been pretty much right on with hand calculated readings. My evic always read high.

You must be registered for see images attach

Edit: Unless they changed some things in the last month it currently wont tell you the trans temp nor will it tell the oil pressure. Im hoping they will come out with the program soon though. I emailed them and they said to watch for one this fall for the ****** but we all know how that goes.

Comeon Troy, I was just having fun with my scangauge.........and I can't stretch all my fingers and ears around all the necessary drive train components.

The air up in the rocky mountains must be getting real thin......or is it too much of that Coors stuff (maybe a rocky mountain high)???:D

I was refering to the sound of the engine/******/t-case/diffs(any noises it shouldn't be making) and the feel of how the engine/****** responds for any problems.I've been turning wrenches for 18 years and know what things should sound/feel like and since I'm the only person to drive my KJ since Feb '02 I know how it should feel when driven, much, much more reliable then a idiot light or a electronic gauge.

I prefer mechanical gauges over electronic ones since they are more reliable and are not as prone to crapping out like electronic gauges/sensors.

Ive always used conditioner on all the leather and for around a year Ive been using the Mopar cover that goes in the windshield. Its had tint on the side windows for around 3 years which keeps most of the UV rays off of the leather.

I hardly use the actual steering wheel anyway. I usually have my hands on the area where the cruise control is or on the very bottom of the steering wheel.

So do these Scangauge deals provide any added performance or is it just a gadget?

Water temp in Fahrenheit.

Something Ive noticed about that temp gauge, its not right at all. It will say the engine is 195F when its not. Mine has been as low as 170F and the gauge reads 195F. Ive also seen it as high as 230F right before the fan kicked on in traffic and the gauge read 195F. I do not like the fact that the fan lets the engine get that hot before the fan comes on. It actually runs cooler if I run the A/C.

Oh! What temp do you get with the scangauge when the engine is fully warmed up? Around 210? My Jeep seems like it runs hot but I know that is normal for today's engines. What is surprising to me is how long it takes to cool down.

193-196F. It has a 195F stat.

And Ive also noticed how long it takes to cool down. That iron block holds a lot of heat.

The t-stat just starts to open at 195 degrees,it fully opens at about 203-205 degrees.the normal operating temp for the KJ is 210 degrees.

Troy, my engine temp runs from 198-203 normally according to the scangauge but I have the factory tow package with the extra fan so maybe that makes it run a couple of degrees cooler in normal non towing driving??? Is that true???......(and yea, like you said I also like mechanical gauges too - but the scanguage is what I have)

The scanguage will also fit any vehicle with an OBDII port and read and clear codes but I have not tried that yet as my KJ has not thrown a code. Maybe one day I will put the gas cap on wrong and get it to throw a code so I can play with it.....:D

Altitude plays alot with the actual degrees.
