Look in the owner's manual. You can't disable the light, but you can make the chime go away.

If you are the only one in the front dude, plug the passenger seat-belt into your clip. Just pull it in front of or behind the passenger seat and click it into the driver side and- bee-eye-enn-gee-oh, no more ding-ding. Though really ya just aught to put your belt on dude.

It's pretty easy. I'll give you a step by step walk through on how to do it.

1) Open your door.
2) Get in Jeep, place ass in seat
3) Close door.
4) Look to your left, do you see your seat belt? Grab it.
5) With your hand that is grabbing your seat belt, pull it over you
6) Finally, it is over you, buckle it in the slot next to your right leg.
7) Tada! You are complete! No more alarm beeping because you don't buckle up!

NO KIDDING.

Can you say DARWIN AT WORK?

I too want my head to go through the windshield!
They say that over 90% of collisions happen within
two blocks of your home!
On the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willy's news group
one of the members posted this:

"The only story I have right now is about how dumb it is to forget to
wear your seatbelt, even in your driveway! :(

A couple weeks ago I was winching logs all day building a bridge so was
in and out many times without moving the CJ7 and then hopped in to go
see a neighbour at the end of the driveway and forgot my belt. I gave
the gas a little goose on a fun corner and the gas caught under the
floor mat spinning me into the bank and tossing me out through the
closed steel passenger door. Broke my neck at C2 or at the base of the
skull. Family Doc called it an unsupported hangman's break. The
doctors say I am extremely lucky to be alive and to have the use of my
body still. I am in a Halo vest for the next 3 months.

What a pain in the butt, as soon as I can move decently I am going to
burn that damn floor mat, it put me in the ditch once back in the 90's
also and there is no way I will give it a third chance..."

I always wear my seat belt just in case something like this happens!

Was raised in vehicles not wearing seatbelt, hated them,XJ took a left when it should of took right, hit a rock, seatbelt worked so did airbag,if you never believe

Yes, so true!
An air bag can brake your neck if you are not buckled into your seatbelt!

I didn't wear my seat belt until 90 or so...

What convinced me was my friend, had a 90 Blazer, got trapped under a semi, and the roof was chopped of among more damage, and the safe belt save him. He was also a first response person, and knew first hand that safe belt could mean life or death.

i have always worn my seatbelt... but every so often there a moment or reason that you dont... shuffling the cars in the drive way, quick shot around the block, etc... lets face it, every so often the is an instance that we do not have in on. i turned mine off because im a control freak... it hasn't changed my practice of wearing a belt...just a whole lot less annoying for the few times i don't want/need too.

I will ALWAYS wear my belt
saw a head on between a mid size car and a mini-van
both going 60+ mph
both wearing their belts
neither car could have the front doors open
both had the ENGINES KNOCKED UNDER THEM
you could hardly even tell what kind of car it was
driver of the mini-van some how BENT THE STEERING WHEEL AND PUNCHED
THROUGH THE GAUGES ,they were pushed to him
yet other than 2 very mangled hands he was fine
and due to the smoke in the car the female driver of the car GOT OUT ON HER OWN

I would have seen 2 dead bodies had they not been wearing their belts

After getting hit by a drunk driver and getting tossed into the ditch spinning at 60mph and watching my life flash before me thinking i was going to die and then realizing that the car came to a stop and i was able to take off my seatbelt and get out of what was left of the car i'm convinced that seatbelts save lives, and it saved mine too...

I haven't had the opportunity, knock on wood, to experience an airbag deployment yet, that accident was back in the early 90's and no airbags in the vehicle, but i can just about imagine the force smacking you in the face if your forward against the wheel because your not wearing your belt. I have seen how these new seat belts work too, they have the explosive device in them like an airbag to forcefully retract the belt. I don't know if the KJ has that but i assume they do, our '02 PT Cruiser has these retraction devices in the belt. One of them malfunctioned and i had to get a new belt for it, after replacing it i took the old one and about 20ft of wire and laid it out in the middle of the yard, and then i touched the ends to a small gel cell battery, WOW... I sure as hell don't want to be in a vehicle with those and the airbags going off, but i'm thankful they are there!
