Select Trac or Command Trac?

The question has recently come up realted to the prevalence of the Select Trac 4WD system in the Liberty as opposed to the Command Trac system.

Which do you have in your Liberty?

Got select-trac in both the XJ and the KJ. QT1 in the ZJ and QDII in the WK.

Pretty sure I have select trac, I had to look it up but I have which ever one I can do 55 in 4lo and 25 in 4hi, I like what ever one that is because I need to move fast in 4 wheel drive sometimes.

Youve got it backwards! Dont try to do 55mph in 4low!!!

Ive never had a use to go over 10mph or so in 4low.

It is Selec-trac. Comes in handy on partially snowy or rainy roads.

I have Command Trac, I dont really need it in the flatlands ether. The gas mileage is 1 mile per galon better in the Part time (Command Trac).

Command Trac here,stronger then the select trac and a direct shifting t-case unlike the select trac.I hated the select trac in my '01 Grand,99% of the time that I need 4wd I'm in 4lo anyway so the fulltime option is virtually usless to me.

Should be 2-4 more weeks and my AtlasII t-case will be here,HMMMMM twin sticks,4.3:1 low range,and all gears no chains again for me .

Hi I'll be thankful if somebody tells me where can I get more detailed information about the strength comparison between Select-Trac and Command-Trac. I'm aware of the existence of the Command-Trac HD and the Rock-Trac, but I still can't find nothing just people opinions in forums about the Select-Trac vs the standard Command-Trac.

I hated the select trac in my '01 Grand, 99% of the time that I need 4wd I'm in 4lo anyway so the fulltime option is virtually usless to me.

Did you hated a transfer case only because it haves an option that you rarely use? C'mon... (I'm just kidding... peace )

Beauty. I had a 4WD a long time ago that was geared so low in Low/Low that it could be started in 1st gear, and move without giving it gas. Albeit, it was at only about 1/10th MPH, but that was what it was designed for.

anyhow, this other one is more electronic, am I right?

if so, why wouldnt you want the, what seems to be less desirable, command trac? you will engage when you want, directly in the tcase. the other is going off electronics, sorta like a hill decent, or traction control situation.

I don't know enough about either, but I felt happy about the handle and direct connection, just curious what this other one is I guess?

edit: is command trac II the same as select trac? I guess mine is command trac I, I have the handle, ok now I am lost!

No, the select-trac is not electronic. It just has the option of using Full-time.

Command-trac 2 is not like Select trac.

The command-trac is a direct shift part time t-case,the select-trac is a indirect shifting part-time t-case with a full-time option,non are electronically controlled.The shifting mechinism in the select-trac has been known to fail never letting the t-case out of full-time 4wd(on going problem in the XJ's,but they are older so the KJ's could fall victim in a few years).Some KJ's happened to get the 231HD(also known as the NP241,not the NV241 RockTrac) which is a stronger version of the 231 command-trac t-case.

The '08 KK's get the command-tracII and the select-tracII,both are electronically shifted t-cases from some offbrand maker,not a New Process or New Venture case.The command-tracII has the same options as the command-trac,2wd,4hi,and 4lo.The select-tracII has the same options as the select-trac,2wd,4full-time,4part-time,and 4lo.Both of the KK's cases just use a electronic motor to shift into 4wd besides a actual mechaincally linked shifter.

Well I have the Command-Trac, but when I voted in the poll I was thinking how nice it would be to have the Selec-Trac, and clicked the selec-trac option...(banghead)

FWIW......I use selec-trac full time all the time in the winter because we have a lot of snow/sleet/slush and part blacktop road conditions in the mountains here. Unless we get solid snow and then I go to 4hi part time. When off road I use mostly 4lo with a/t in first gear for slow going. I have not had any problems with the selec-trac t-case. I do agree with tjkj that the command-trac is stronger but the selec-trac is also strong enough to handle itself. And the Atlas t-case he is talking about is in a league by itself for serious heavy duty use.
