Shifter cable replacement troubles…

Good morning.
After installing a new shifter cable onto my 05 Liberty, it shifted into every gear BUT park. I decided to give up after working on if for 3 hours. It was very frustrating and upsetting. If anybody has ANY kind of advice please share. I could really use it, thanks kjforum
