Should there be a boot here?

I was having a poke around underneath earlier and was looking at the drive shaft that comes out the front of the transfer box. Compared to the other joints the boot is completely different. There is something in place to stop grease coming out and crap getting in but should there be another covering the whole area?

Thats the way it looks, problem is crap gets thrown back in there and that boot does go bad and will need replaced at some time.
Easy fix though when the time comes just keep an eye on it

Good news then, hopefully the slight vibration I get at 60+ is a wheel balance issue.

when mine started to go, in 4wd under load it started popping and ticking, at the end it did it in 2wd too. my boots looked great . but internally it was not. it started to give slight vibration too. too take the guess work out of it cost free. take 10 min pull shaft out, then drive. if do, jack driver side tire off ground slightly so the shaft can turn for the bolts.
