Sold the Jeep

Kinda have mixed emotions but in the end I needed something that better fit my daily life. 14 mpg's were killing and I'm about move which will triple my daily commute, so the Jeep had to go in favor of something more economical.

I know, I know - A lot of you commute on your KJ's and you're real men and I'm a ****, but I just wasn't looking forward to the fuel bill of 40 miles of stop and go traffic, daily, with 14 mpgs (on a good day). She was starting to consume oil (not leak), needed ball joints and control arms, the blend doors were starting to go out (again), bla bla bla. It was time to sell it and get something new, or put a pile of money into it just stay where I'm at.

For those curious about value, I listed it for $6k and within a week I had $5700 in my hands. Might have been able to get another $100-200, but I needed to act quick.

Of the 10 cars and 5 motorcycles I've owned, the only car I haven't regretted selling was the 1996 Ford Explorer....hated that thing. But I cant keep them all.

Ya the Jeep guzzles gas, at least I am driving something safe with some room in it.
I know sometimes you get tired of something and move into something else more commuter friendly and that's cool..just please tell me you did not buy a ricer ok...(squish box) :icon_lol:

Funny how people lift a Jeep,put larger then stock tires on it and don't re-gear and adjust speedo and then complain about mpg's.

That's true, with a non adjusted speedo, actual gas mileage is better that one thinks they are getting (taller tires travel further than what's registered on the odometer). One reason I haven't regeared, other than not "needing" to performance wise, is the cost. Let's say I got 3 mpg better, might be a stretch but let's use that. I fill up once a week, and 3 mpg more would save me 2.5 gallons or $5.70/week based on current gas prices and crappier winter mpg's. Not quite that much actually, due to my non adjusted speedo. New gears and the install labor can cost in the neighborhood of +/- $2k. That would take me 350 weeks, or 6.75 years for the gas mileage payback. I live in the flatlands, and don't have much in the way of uphill resistance, which is why I don't "need" new gears (note, there is a difference between need and want). If I only gained back 2 mpg, payback would be 8.4 years. I'm not going to have this thing in 6 years, and it's very likely not even 3 more. For me, regearing for the sake of better mpg's is a terrible investment. Of course, other's cost/return results will vary based on total miles driven, where driven, etc.

Maybe the guy wants more than our max of 21 MPGs? Sheesh. With the average vehicle getting twice that nowadays and at a very small cost for new...that's a very viable reason for selling a 10 year old Jeep. Get your head out of your ass.

Jeep Liberty is not the only vehicle option out there. It suits some needs but not all.

I don't think some of the critics here are being fair. I would bet that if some of you were moving and in that situation you might rethink things as well. When circumstances change people have to make decisions, not all of them easy ones. Throw in the fact that it needs some work and I can understand someone wanting to go in another direction.

FACT: At their best, our Liberty's suck as a daily long commuter, especially when compared to other options.

Thank you. Well put. But unless it's what tjkj would, it's the wrong thing to do. The guy is just a prick. I've ready many of his dribble and it's comical. Fast to criticize, slow to understand anything he wouldn't do. There's one on every forum, lol.
