anyone have any experience with, or thoughts on the spartan helical diff. It seems similar to the DTT, but can be purchased for less. Some sources say it fits a liberty while other's can neither confirm on deny it. In our dana 30a axles is it just the ring and pinion that's unique or the diff carrier also?

Any 27 spline LSD/Locker should fit. I counted splines on a spare driver's side CV I have in my garage, and it is 27 spline. You should contact your local offroad or driveline shop for verification.

Front axles usually don't get anything other than an open differential, due to steering/handling issues on the road.

Lots of folks running these types of lsd's in front, as long as you're not trying to power in tight turns on road shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your thoughts.

Not saying you can't, but there is a reason they don't come factory.

Yeah, because humans are great at remembering in emergency situations? :)

Come ride with me on my daily 90 plus mile round trip and see how they work on very twisty roads
Bring extra underware, you may need them cause I don;t give her any slack
AND the reason being that they do not come factory is due to soccer moms and men who really do not know how to drive

sthoms: There are cars that come with a helical diff in the front from the factory. Look at the Subaru Impreza STI for example: It shipped with a helical LSD in the front for 10+ years. Mini also offered a helical LSD on the Cooper S for years. There are lots of performance FWD cars that come from the factory with helical LSDs. I would hazard a guess that the reason LSDs are not included from the factory often is because they are significantly more expensive than open diffs. Not sure why a helical front LSD would be an issue on a KJ anyhow since pavement driving is all done in RWD and helical LSDs don't have pre-loaded clutches that will cause scrub on the inside tire in tight corners.

I could be wrong or missing something though! Perhaps you could enlighten us as to why a helical LSD in the front of a KJ is such a bad idea?
