Do you think the #4 coil got wet internally? Is this a common issue with coils?

Did you pull the coil and dry it and blow some air down where the plug is? If you can't get to a compressor, buy a can of that compressed air people use for computers and electronics. Common, I don't know but I've done it with #6 before.

I can try that, thanks. shouldnt the coil be water tight?

your #6 got wet and you had to dry it out?

The seal way down around the plug isn't perfect. It probably is flooded way down in the plug tube. The coil is integrated into the plug tube so not really the coil acting up as that's up top. I just had this similar issue with my 01 Outback. The 2.5l boxer motor has an issue with the plug seals in the "valve" covers leaking oil down the plug tube and it causes misfires. PITA to change them.

And yes, I got coolant down the #6.

Yeah they should be water tight, but like anything else on an engine, they wear.. they're rubber that gets warm/hot the whole time so they're susceptible to shrinking/hardening/cracking.

Nonetheless, many have had issues drowning out the back coil under the coolant overflow tank, think it's #6. If that leaks or you take a hose off with it full, or spill badly filling up the tank... You can drown out that coil. You can use a hair dryer or intelligently with a low heat gun setting and help to dry it out. But I'd just plug a cloth inside of it and heat it up or set it in the sun, but that may not work now lol
Should dry out, but if nor just swap coils and see if the misfire changes?

Ask someone to borrow their shop vac and suck the bulk of it out of the well. I mean you don't have to borrow someone else's but I don't think coolant helps a shop vac. :D

Ill dry it and hope thats the short term fix.

can I change the seal or do i have to buy the whole coil?

***whats the 411 on coils? and does it just pull out after the nut is removed?

if I buy a coil does it really have to match the other brands? what brands to avoid if I buy 1 or 6?

Thanks for all the great replies!!

There's the top boot then there's an o-ring further down. I suppose you could try changing the o-ring.

yes. just pull it straight out.

almost everyone here will recommend mopar only.
in the end, your money, your prerogative.

Had the same issue - but was 2.. or 3 coils. After several times pulling cols, drying, pulling plugs, drying it quit, only to come back after sitting a day or so.

Finally said %^%$ and replaced all 6 - figured it was time anyway.

Like it's been said almost everybody is going to yell you go Mopar, because it's the smart thing to do.
That being said I have 2 duralast and 2 valucraft coils on mine that I've been running for at least 2 years now..
Not going to say there's no difference because there is, but personally I haven't noticed much of one.

I'd try drying it out first like you were planning on before replacement, but sounds like a set of coils is in your future :D

UPDATE!

#4 coil is Clean & Dry! I cleared the error and all is good!

I wanted to change all 6 O-Rings, lets see if I can get them for less than $4 each
(Mopar Ignition Coil O-Ring 05072382AA)

Noticed the Fan belt starting to crack, so that was taken care of as well!
