Spinning nut problem

Was going over my suspension while doing the front rack and ran into a problem. One of the 4 nuts of the top front shock assembly mount just turns and won’t loosen or tighten. The stud isn’t turning but the nut does.

I’ve tried a vice grip with upward pressure pulling the nut and loosening. I’ve tried penetrating oil and heat on the nut. Nada. Not sure how I’d cut it out of there either. Any ideas?

Use a nut splitter or even a chisel and hammer could work if your careful.

I did not know a nut splitter was even a thing. There’s a tool for everything I guess. So Dremel or nut splitter. Decisions….

Nut splitter would be the better choice for this situation, but you'll probably have more opportunities to use a dremel for other projects...sorry I'm not helping your decision

Drill the side of the nut and split it with a sharp chisel. Unfortunately the stud is probably stripped under the nut but it's worth removing it carefully in case it can be saved.

Since nut splitters are not expensive, I got one. Have yet to use it but am jacked to know such a thing exists.

I've never looked at the price of them, I assumed they'd be spendy. They look like fun! Is it weird to hope, in a way, I need one someday?

I recently had the upper ball joint nut (not on the jeep) decide it wouldn't let go of the stud, and the internal hex opening also decided to strip out. 5 minutes with the death wheel and I had it cut close enough to the knuckle to whack it with a hammer and punch and pop the rest out.

If i had a nut splitter, I'd have used that.
