Starter Cable

What is the length of the starter cable? Is it accessible without moving the drive shafts I would like to upgrade my starter and ground wires.

Starter cable ie. Solenoid cable will run from ignition switch to Starter relay and hence to the starter solenoid..exact routing can be found in the Wiring Diagram Section 8W in the Jeep KJ Service Manual for your year KJ here, assuming yours is a KJ, KK will be the same principal.

Best to estimate the length of wire needed, cut off the existing wire at both ends and leave it in place as it will go through a whole lot of harnesses. Then run your new cable via the shortest route and tape it up nicely.

The thick wire to the solenoid is easy to get at.

The Starter Motor itself is bolted to the engine so the engine grounds...two on the V6 going from the rear of the Cam covers to the chassis. Apparently there is another lead that is hard to find behind the one engine mount.

No harm in fitting your own short thick wire from a starter body mounting screw to a nearby chassis point or all the way up to the negative terminal of the Battery.

I thought it was the starter on my 2006. Jeep liberty with just about 200000 miles. Turns out it was the lug on the starter. And it had rotted and the car would not start. It cost me a 110 bucks to have the lug replaced. I wish I could have found it because I am electrician and I could have done it on my own but I believe it is not very visible from below. You have to kind of like wrap your hand around the starter.So for anyone who has a no start condition and it's not the relay.And it's not the battery.Check the starter lugs, save yourself some money.They're probably about five bucks or ten bucks tops. I just replaced the starter on my 2006 last year and also replaced the front driveshaft because the rear boot was shot. Rockauto had an awesome deal on the acdelco reman starter
