Hey all, today I had my local Midas run an electrical system check. The results are in the picture. I heard the manufacturing date matters, mine was built in august of 2002. Anyone know what kind of starter I need? Or when I can expect it to go?

Just go to parts store, give them your Jeep's info, build date and they can get you the starter you need. Chrysler notorious about using different parts through out production of a vehicle. All vehicle parts are like a light bulb as I used to explain to customers, one day you flip the switch it works the next day it don't. It can go without warning.

I always hated, having to order parts for Chrysler vehicles. Normally if the parts vendor had all variants in stock I would tell them to bring each one down and I would play match the part to get the right one. But GM is just as bad as Chrysler is on that too, nothing worse than needing to do a tune up on a 5.3L and going through elimination just to get the right spark plugs!

I'd love to understand how the heck that all worked... how do you make parts from 3 different manufacturers (YOUR COMPETITORS NO LESS!!!) work together?!

It's still done today, a single manufacturer develops basic parts for all Auto Makers today. The most easy to spot is the short antenna mast like on the Chevrolet Cruze which is also on Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Kia etc... Its the exact same part, just each manufacturer has their own name, part number and mark up to an otherwise $10 antenna mast. Its been done like that for decades now. Automakers really do not manufacture their own parts they have another large name do it then slap their name over.
