I have a 2005 Renegade KJ, I was thinking about putting a spare head unit I have in my jeep and just wanted to make sure I wouldn't blow the stock speakers.

I'm running a 200w head unit, no 'real' problems so far, some music can still make my speakers sound bad, but for the most part the factory speakers have taken the extra power in stride, they are definitely louder, than before, but my deck has great EQ options.

I added two tube subs, 5" sub in each one, and they are about 14" long tubes. It helped out a lot. I mounted 120Watt amp across the two of them to hold them together. Sounds nice now, and can lower the bass so the factory speakers aren't hittin' so hard now.

Not sure if those guys answered your question, but the amp in your new head-unit doesn't constantly feed those speakers its full wattage, it adds it as you increase the volume. So, just listen to your music, and if it starts to get pretty crackly or distorted as you increase the volume, you're close to the limit. I never try to push the limit of my speakers, and I prefer to have speakers that can handle more power than my deck puts out so that I couldn't blow them if I tried. But if you do just go with the head-unit, you'll be safe w/ the volume fairly low.

hope that helped!

I may be incorrect since my info came from a Best Buy audio "expert", but he told me that almost all head units under $250 will work fine with stock speakers. Anything under $250 you'd need an amp to get serious power and anything over $250 you should get better speakers. Take it for what it's worth. I think the stock unit is a pile of crap and can't wait to change it out. I think the stock speakers have some good bass to them though. Hopefully that just isn't with the stock unit.

NO, I got an aftermarket, and the bass is still fine, better in fact... There is a lot more mids and lows with the unit I have. Adding the subwoofers evened it all out.
