Hi Guys im new here on the Forum so hello to everyone.

I'll probably be posting some more in the coming months as I want to modify the KJ I've just bought a little bit before I take it offroad.

Asides from that though I have noticed a very strange noise that I think is coming from the back axle. When driving in a straight line there is no noise at all however if I turn any more than half lock on the steering wheel, either to the left or right a whinning noise starts. Its similar to the sound a steering pump makes but this is much louder and from what I can tell it's definitely coming from the back of the car. I have also found there's no sound when turning at parking speed. Anybody got any ideas what it might be?

I've had it up on a lift at a specialist and they opened up the back diff but couldn't see anything wrong so put it all back together again. That seemed ok at the time as it meant i didn't have to spend any money but now im getting a bit anxious as something is definitely wrong. Anyway any help on this would be much appreciated as i don't want it to let go/break when im in the desert.

Thanks for the help guys.

Do you have trac lock limited slip in the rear? I've noticed that some limited slips make a noise when turning.

As far as i know the Jeep is a stock standard show room affair. Im don't know much about Jeeps so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. Was the trac lock limited slip diff possibly a factory fitted item? I wouldn't have thought so.

Look on the passenger side of the rear axle. There should be a sticker wrapped around the axle that will tell you the gear ratio (will read 3.73), the type of axle (will read Chrysler 8.25 or Corporate 8.25), and if it's got trac-lock in it.
