I'm getting a strange vibration when I hit the gas at all on my truck. I feel it mostly in the steering wheel, it shakes quite a bit when I take off from a stop. It came on very suddenly. It was fine in the morning then drove it in the afternoon and it was happening. What would cause this?

Several things could
help to know some things
like miles on it
year
lifted/ unlifted
how much sag suspension has already if stock
tires, worn out or new
anything replaced in past week or so etc

Check your lugs! Some ***hole may have been going to steal your tires and loosened them but then got scared off. Not the first time I've seen that if true.

Lift your wheels off the ground in turn and grab them at the 9 and 3 o'clock and 12 and 6 o'clock position and try to wiggle the tire/wheel back and forth....you could possibly be losing a wheel bearing....

ya could be a number of things, how is it when you let go of the accelerator( coasting}? best to make sure before going to far and have something drastic happen. Let us know.

It's an 02 3.7 4x4 sport. 178,000 miles. Struts and springs were replaced a few years back by Po. Nothing has been done recently. I'll have to lift it up to check the wheels this weekend. It only happens when I'm on the gas, nothing vibrates when coasting.

Then I would check axle u-joints. the rear axle u-joint at the diff can go rather quickly. I just re-did mine last week. Vibration came on quick, I drove it one night and it was slight, my wife took it to work the next day and we went out again that night and it was horrible, I picked up two joints(for the axle I might add) got home at 8;30 and changed the one out only and test driving by nine thirty. I had bought two, but for time management decided to just replace the bad one. The thing was when I checked the shaft for play while it was still on the truck it didn't really move, but I did see the cup was broken, and then could really tell once I had the shaft out and I could really manipulate the u-joint.

Good luck

Bert
