I've been on hiatus from this for a long while. My apologies for that. Life... well... you know.
Anyway, I've finally finished the photo edits and uploads, and this will likely be the last image post for this trip.
I last left you with the morning of snow at Crater Lake. The weather did not cooperate at all that morning... none of the lake was visible. So I chose not to stick around, and instead, meandered my way back north to Portland.
I did, however, have the strong urge to bring Eugene to his namesake.

I found something interesting, and maddening, about the interstate drivers in the Portland area. It seems that NO ONE has even a minute grasp on the concept of slower vehicles keeping to the right. No one. It gets bad sometimes on the Chicago highways... but holy hell... you would swear that those drivers had never heard of the concept.
After finishing out my time at the chestnut farm, I chose to venture out to Mt. Hood... to see it up close. But, as luck would have it, cloud-cover once again did not work to my benefit. Up-close, nothing could be seen. Even so from a distance. There were other cool vistas to entertain though.
One of the valleys in the Mt. Hood area - many orchards/farms here.

I confided with the weather app on my phone, and decided to spend the rest of the afternoon and part of the next morning cruising the Columbia River Gorge before the rain rolled in.

Love views like this one... with the small ribbon of the interstate at the bottom.

The Dalles Dam... at the easternmost part of the Gorge, and looking across the Columbia River at Washington.

Heading back to the west, I ran into the waterfall region of the Gorge. Lovely hiking and waterfalls abound here!

The 2-lane Columbia River Highway was pretty to drive - much of it looking like this.

And as the rain rolled in the next day, I stopped for my last view in The Gorge... at an old rest stop along the Columbia River Highway called the Vista House (

On my journey back west to the Pacific Coast Highway, the weather straightened out some and became rather enjoyable. I was extremely pleased to find miles and miles of, what I like to call, beach highway to drive as opposed to taking the paved roads north. Sure, I didn't go as fast as I probably would have on the road... but that was mostly by chose. I mean, why would you want to miss all this?!

And the sentry guards along my route were nice to look at as well.

On my approach to Astoria, the sandy beaches turned to stone. I had no choice but to return to the streets (that, and the no vehicle access signs
). I was nearing the mouth of the Columbia River... where it empties into the Pacific.

This would be my final approach... from Astoria, Oregon into southwestern Washington state.

Crossing into Washington, I stayed either on the PCH or on roads that paralleled closer to the coast. On that route, I found the lighthouse at Cape Disappointment.
