Did they ever make oem metal tail light guards for the kj?

At the junkyard hunting renegade flares, I noticed a 2003 had tail light guards on it. I got really excited to see them as I didn't know they made them just to find out they were plastic. They were definitely oem with how well they were adhered, and how perfectly paint matched they were to the painted renegade flares (or I suppose someone could of bought aftermarket ones with great adhesive, and paid a paint shop to color match).

I’ve seen aftermarket black metal ones occasionally on both KJ’s & KK’s. I am not sure of the manufacturer.

Those are listed as the oe replacement for the renegade lamps, which I'm guessing they are plastic like the oem ones I saw in the junkyard, but I thank you for your search. Otherwise it would be a steal for a replacement tail lamp and a metal guard at that price!

I think a chineeseum radius bender will be in my future orders, unless I get lucky and find some aftermarket ones in the salvage yards. I have aquired a lot of tools when it comes out the same or cheaper to buy the tool and learn some things on the way making it myself.

Seems to me these could do more harm than good. I picture them getting caught on brush or whatever and pulling the whole tail light assembly out. Being as they're plastic I don't think they'd do much for a direct hit either. But they do look kinda cool nonetheless.

I could see that happening against some brush or anything able to grab a hold of it for sure.

If I found some metal ones I was hoping for a different look added, and a bonus of minor parking lot defenses from people loading their stuff like they're practicing martial arts lol.

Our 2002 3.7 Ltd came with black plastic rear light guards.
One had been badly reattached and having taken it off, with the intention of properly refitting, we decided it looked better off.
It was tricky removing the old adhesive without damaging the lamp lenses but now much easy to wash the car.

Other than looks, I don't really see a need for them. I don't drive that fast in reverse to worry about that.

My '05 KJ has what I believe are factory tail light guards. I bought the unit used so I can't say if the previous owner installed them. My daughter is using it long term now so it's not close at hand. The guards on it are plastic, mall rated, trim pieces. One of our Texas hail storms broke them while peening the rest of the sheet metal. We don't have much brush where I normally operate, our Jeep is typically used to travel muddy ranch roads that are otherwise dust trails. In other words, ours is utilitarian, not a toy.

Having said that, if you found a factory set, I would bet heavy on them being plastic. Best to you in your quest to find what you are looking for, maybe some expanded aluminum and stiff wire bent to shape would be a great Saturday project.

Good day. I have seen those tail light guards made of metal for about $100 Canada at Just Jeeps

Have the plastic guards on mine. Bought off eBay about 8 years ago and still look new...plus, they don't rust!

my 02 crd sport model (in the UK so export) had some factory off road extras I believe from new, and one of those was factory metal rear tail light guards. They're cast and plated chrome.

I got some gray colored plastic taillight guards on my 02 KJ. Backed straight up into a maple tree. No damage to my tail light but the guard got knocked off is all. Went to the parts store and bought a small roll of foam tape to reattach it. No prob. Saved me a tail lig.

I have the plastic glue-ons (they actually use Velcro tape) and have had them on there for about nine years. The plastic is pretty durable but I have never had to really put that to the test. I really like the look.
