You need specific made lines,or at least the blocks to convert to SS braided lines.Jeepin By Al has complete sets,so does Classic Tube.

'02-'05 KJ's have one rear brake line that feeds both brakes,'06+ have to rear brakes lines due to ESP.


Personally I would just replace the calipers and rubber brake lines and be done with it.If the problem still is there then the prop valve or ABS module next.

so i replaced the cali[er and slapped on new pads and rotors, and bled the brakes yet im still getting a low groaning tone that gets louder with speed....

so maybe its not the brakes. I have no idea where to look next.

That's what was grinding on mine.

Get under and check where the inner CV joint connects to the intermediate axle shaft. Grab hold of the CV joint housing (inner joint) and apply a radial load upward... there should be a tiny amount of play but not a ton (correct me if I'm wrong here). If that's the case, there's some good instructions for that around here somewhere... I can provide places I found good prices on parts.

It caused a grinding/hum on mine... My guess is that, on mine, I was hearing a splined connection moving in a way that it shouldn't move.

so tomorrow im going to check and see if they have play in them.. Does the jeep have to be jacked up to do so? And if they do have excessive play what kind of cost and labor am i looking at? Can it be fixed without having to go to the dealership?

Is it very noticeable when you are slowing down? I had a very similar issue and was about to replace the intermediate shaft, but I took it in for an alignment first and guess what? No more noise! Check your front tires for odd wear, that would be one way to quickly check.... :shrug:

the wear on my tires is fine, thats what i thought it was first. Then i noticed my brakes were wearing funny on one side.. but the noise has been the same throughout.

The noise i dont hear til i get around10-15mph and increases the faster i go.

But slowing down is normal, the jeep just doesnt coast like it used to.

No - check it flat on the ground. It sits in a more relaxed position then.



Changing out the intermediate shaft is a straight forward job... But a tough one (big heavy parts that sometimes don't want to cooperate)

Remove wheel and brakes
Remove spindle nut
Bust the LBJ loose
Remove the strut clevis
Remove CV axle
Remove intermediate axle, bearing and seal
Reassemble

Wipe your brow
Drink a beer
Feel proud

well i just went an wiggled the parts like in the video and there is very little play.....

I need to figure out whats going on.

I also just looked at the brakes i only have made a few short trips but no scoring on the rotors, and i must have put the line in properly because no leaks :]]]

But i still have a hum noise that i have no idea what it is...

Jack it up so the tire is off the ground, grab the tire at the top and bottom and try rocking it back and forth. If there is any play - bad bearings.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...check the intermediate shaft if you haven't already.
Mine was making a funny noise too last year and I did everything to it and the mechanic suggested a bunch of stuff but couldn't figure it out unless he took it all apart.

Saw some posts here about the intermediate shaft getting worn... pulled it out and that was my problem...got one from the scrap yard and the noise was gone.

how do i check that? i checked the cv joints and there was no excessive play.
