Thinking about selling off my Libby and going with a Cherokee Trailhawk or Compass Trailhawk. The Cherokee would be the 3.2L I prefer the 6 cylinder and the locking rear diff on the Cherokee. Any feedback on either? Thanks.

There a few different lockers available for the 8.25" diff.

I have a 15 Cherokee Limited, with the 3.2. It's a really nice vehicle, but it doesn't have the campy-ness of a KJ. It's great in the snow and is comfortable to drive. My biggest complaints about it is the ride and the visibility. It rides very stiffly and busy...it's doesn't ride as nice as my lifted KJ or LR3 or even the XJ. You can't drink a cup of coffee in it. The visibility is tough as the D pillars are really thick.

I would not get the 4 cylinder Cherokee. The 3.2 is what you need, it's not fast but it moves alright. I'd put it as a little quicker than the KJ but not as fast as my XJ or LR3.
All in all, it's great looking and driving vehicle. Mine is just a commuter/road trip vehicle, I don't intend to wheel it. I love it for that. The KJ feels more "special" if you know what I mean. Test drive one and see what you think.

Good advice. Gonna do a few test drives this week. I know it's kind of stupid to sell off my lifted 02 with only 26,000 miles on it, but I get the itch every now and then.

I'd keep the KJ and get the Cherokee, it's not like you'll get much for the KJ.

I'm guessing you'll get half that, the mods don't add anything.

One other option I'd highly recommend on the KL is get the panoramic sunroof. Makes it feel more airy inside. I would've bought a Trailhawk but the weekend I wanted to get one, I couldn't find any with the same options my Limited has...plus mine was the exact color combo I wanted. (Granite on frost beige)

Done a few test drives and looked at a few different vehicles. Pretty sure I'm going to go with a brand new Cherokee Trailhawk at this point. Good chance I'll wait for a decent deal on the redesigned 2019 with new 2.0L Turbo4, but might consider a 2018 V6 if I find a deal I just can't walk away from.

Ive been trying to sell my 05 and I haven't even gotten one bite. I did start asking on the high side because I figured there's always someone who will try to lowball and then we could meet in the middle somewhere. but nothing yet. I have brought my asking price down $1500 and ad has been up for just about a month. Be prepared to be patient.

Yeah, I hear you. Might not even sell it. Might just keep it or give it to my Son. Don't think I'd ever be able to find another 02 with only 26,000 miles. On top of that it doesn't have a scratch or dent on it, it's lifted, has $1,000 worth of new wheels and tires and a $750 stereo with Android Auto and XM. I also added the factory cruise, overhead display and steering wheel audio controls with the proper interface for the stereo. I'm only the second owner. The first owner only put 11,000 miles on it.

I could pull the motor and get $1,500-$2,000 just for that. Factor in the front and rear axels, transfer, trans, wheel/tires, stereo, etc and I could easily get around $4,000 or more just parting it out. Not going to find many 02 Liberty parts with only 26,000 miles.

You're probably right. I always do my best to avoid first model years. Looking at a couple 2018's today as well as a 2017. All are pretty much loaded and have the V6.

If you want a block heater, you have to check for it. I thought mine had it because it has the cold weather package (defroster lines in windshield, heated seats, battery blanket etc), but starting with 2015 the block heater was a separate option. Should be nested on the front side of the battery.

Sadly, the cost or value of the parts you put on it are largely irrelevant to the value of the vehicle as a whole. Example, thous $1k wheels and tires.., not so much. The Jeep needs wheels and tires, all the buyer wants to see or know is that it has them, they couldn't care less what they are or how much YOU paid for them. The Jeep is worthless as a vehicle if it doesnt have wheels and tires... so they're actually worth what you could sell them for separately if you put the stockers back on and parted them out on their own.

Really, the low mileage and pristine body are what add value to your KJ, but probably no more than another $1000 over any other 2002. Keep in mind, from the perspective of any buyer, what you're selling is a 16 year old Jeep that IS NOT a Wrangler.

That's exactly my point... look at how different our views are on it; you'd have to rely on finding a buyer who saw things like you do. Honestly, let's say your KJ is worth more than typical, even considering the low mileage.. would most people be willing to pay $3000 more for a 2002 Jeep Liberty, or would they just look at newer vehicles within that same $7000-ish budget?

I'd bet they'd prefer newer vehicles for the same amount of money. That, or they'd have to be big fans of the KJ specifically... or simply not care. You have to remember, it's still a 16 year old Jeep of a less than popular model.

I decided to keep my 05 for the same reason. Jeep dealer was willing to give me the best offer (still way below what I wanted) IF I bought a brand new Grand Cherokee from them. I definitely learned the expensive mods don't equal more resale value.

Same with one of my cars. I have a 1 owner 05 SRT-4 with 44k miles on it, tasteful/appropriate mods, and a metric ton of OEM spare parts, some of which are hard to find now. Someone would need to bring a large suitcase filled with used $20 bills for me to part with it.
